NMJ20D October update now available OTA

New OTA just released:

- Google security patches 2017-10
- Security patch for KRACK WPA2 vulnerability
- Improved performance and bug fixes
- Improved touch scrolling
- Fingerprint gesture enabled - swipe fingerprint for notifications




First bug I've noticed is that it killed full-screen wallpaper in BlackBerry Launcher. It's still whitelisted via ADB and controllable in the standalone app, but neither method allow it to use wallpaper full-screen anymore. No other apps I have appear to be affected.

Touch does seem better. It's obviously early and I haven't had much time to compare. My other phone is still on the old build so I'll keep them separate to compare.

The fingerprint gesture is handy.

Glad to see Essential pushing out monthly android updates. My Blackberry Priv received the October '17 update too.

After half a day on the new build I'll say that touch input seems more accurate and typing on the keyboard does appear to be better.

Scrolling seems smoother, especially when adjusting a slider left-to-right. Vertical scrolling is less jittery overall.

Comparing my two PH-1s on the Oct and Sept builds, overall it's an improvement.

And, having the fingerprint gesture for notifications is a welcome tweak:

Unfortunately it's only available OTA at the moment. Just keep checking for updates. Both of my devices had notifications this afternoon pretty close to each other.

If you happen to be on Sprint then you might be stuck for a while. They're slow on approvals and swapping SIMs doesn't seem to help.

I would be wary. I took the leap and got one from Amazon Saturday. My most recent update is dated Oct 5 and it's still not just touch, but also freezing issues. I've had it freeze on me for more than a second today twice while just texting.

In spite of what some say, I think the PH-1 is a really good device. The OTAs have cured most of the jitters and improved the camera noticably for me.
