Yes - absolutely.

I guess you're stuck with not updating or rooting then.

I'd root, personally, if the tethering is a must. There really aren't too many, if any, reasons not to.

Easily fixed via rooting.

I've been rooted since two hours after I got the phone, and yes wireless works with an app after rooting.

If you don't update, you'll have to miss ICS as well as it'll stop tethering too.
