No automatic app restore after "factory data reset"

Despite "backup my data" and "automatic restore" being checked.

What's up with that?

I called AT&T and they said the apps are not suppose to automatically start downloading by themselves (something I believe happened on my Evo 4G, though I'm not 100% sure).

AT&T said that you have to manually download the app, but the app data should automatically be restored. This seems not to be the case: I installed opera browser and my shortcuts did not get restored.

BTW, I just erased everything because I wanted the cleanest start after my 4.1.2 update yesterday This seems to have solved my car not consistently pairing with my S3 (it worked 4 times in a row after my factory reset).

I did afactory reset on my vzw gs3 w days ago, all my apps from playstore cameback within an hour, as well as all contacts and calendars.
The only thing I lost was my nova settings, no big deal. What I did gain was 5gb of internal storage.
I will be doing factory resets on a monthly basis.
I am really starting to hate windows!

When you do the first time setup after a reset, it should ask if you want to restore from Google. If you say yes, it will restore your apps, too.

This may only work if you had previously chosen to backup your device to Google.

I did have both the options checked in settings | backup , and it did NOT ask me if I wanted to restore :-(

Oh Well, my s-voice problem is resolved as is my pairing with my car, so I am happy

Odd. I factory reset my phone recently, and did get prompted to restore all my settings, which included the apps.

I know this post is a little old, but still applies to me. My apps are not automatically reinstalling, only the stock ones. When I go via a computer to the google play < settings, it shows that I have 2 phones. I have one phone, not 2. It says the apps are "installed", should I just keep waiting and hope for the best? I've backed up my data, some on sd card, hoping that majority of my data isn't lost - when connect my phone to my computer, so difficult to tell what I am actually backing up.

I have Verizon Galaxy S III

I just had the same problem... It seems for some reason Google doesn't recognize the phone as being the same as before? Mine is also a Verizon S3...

[Edit] Another thing: it didn't bring my old wifi connections (and passwords) either...

Exact same issue. Went from Cyanfox ROM to Carbon ROM, both 4.4.2. KitKat. No apps got restored nor any wifi passwords. The best part is that this seems to be an ancient error, going back to android 2.2. Great job Google.

I have titanium backup saved to SD card but after reset, settings keeps crashing and there is no file explorer & no keyboard. Any suggestions on what to do? Not real worried using an LG-Optimus 2, its an old phone, just trying to figure it out.
