How do I copy and paste from an email or a webpage?? I know how to copy and paste from a text field, but there doesn't seem to be a way to copy and paste from just text...Is there an app for that or something?

Sidenote: I just ditched my Moto Droid (Cause of space issues) for the fascinate and have mixed feelings so far. I find its prettier, faster, and has more space but lots and pitfalls like: takes forever to charge and not long battery life once it is charged, Not only is the 3g signal weaker but I think it is weaker for wifi as well (droid could pick up WIFI fine in my downstairs and Fascinate switches back in forth from 3g to WIFI) The intrusion of bing on my phone, GPS (I travel a lot) sucks, Speaker is definitely not as loud as the droid's, AND no FROYO!?

Yeah... you can do this in the stock browser and Dolphin.

Just tap where you want to start copying. Tap the menu key, and choose "MORE". Choose the "Select Text" option. Drag your finger over the text you want to copy and it will highlight with pink. When you're done, it will be automatically copied to the clipboard to be pasted.

don't know about the fascinate, but on my evo, if you press and hold at the beginning of the field, two "handles" appear that let you drag to select text. then a window pops up that gives you choices of copy; look-up; or share. you don't have to go to menu options..

that's a sense thing.

and one thing i really want google to implement into stock android, because it's a perfect way to C&P.

as far as gmail goes, you can't do anything to the text in an email. stupid, i know.

In either the web browser or when in email. Hit the Menu button and go to more options. You should see an option that says 'Select Text'. That's your copy and then you should know how to paste.

The biggest pisser is that it doesn't even highlight and link phone numbers. God how I wish google could bring themselves to pick up a blackberry and learn a thing or two about usable phone interfaces.

I use Dolphin HD for my browser, but iirc from the stock browser it was rare a phone number was displayed without a box around it to click and call.

the browser definitely can sense text that is an address and phone numbers, but the email client can't.

there was (is?) an app in the market that allowed you to manipulate gmail data, but i can't remember the name or how well it did the job.

maybe in 3.0? :(

gmail on froyo does copy and paste, the same way as the browser.
Look for it when froyo gets pushed to your phone.

wasn't there a 2.2 apk of gmail around somewhere? i wonder if that would work on 2.1

You can also copy and paste in skyfire as well. To copy from address field, hit the menu key to bring up the address field then tap the address fields. Next, hold your finger down on address field and a menu will pop up allowing you to copy text. To copy text from the page, hit menu button and hit the arrow down menu and select the "select text" option.

anyone know if there are any custom mods that allow you to copy and paste emails in gmail. I send out alot between my hockey team and fraternity and it'd be nice if i didn't have to sometimes retype entire emails.

Speaker is definitely not as loud as the droid's

Wow, the droid volume must be incredible. I can hear my phone ring or notifications go off all the way down the hall at work. In fact I'm trying to figure out a way to lower the volume because its so unbelievably loud. Not that this helps you of course...

i agree, the speaker is quite loud for me as well, the only volume that is oddly low is the navigation volume, which is weird.

The browser is OK about it but other than for looking up businesses I don't come across too many phone numbers on the interwebs that I feel like calling. Email, on the other hand, pretty often contains phone numbers I need (oh, in just about every single coworkers sig) and it would be real nice to just click and head to dialing. Instead its like a game of memory seeing if I can keep all 10 digits in my head until i get to the dialer.

The instant-push OWA is a plus for google (on BB it is only synced every 10 mins) so i have to give them credit for that. But, the bonehead move to make the email text 100% non-dynamic is really painful.

k-9 mail solves that problem. Phone numbers display as plain text, but clicking them will go straight to the dialer. And, it also has the benefit of being able to handle multiple email accounts with completely separate settings like server polling and signatures. Definitely the way to go for email on the SF

Now that there's rumors of the Dinc HD coming to verizon on november 23 I might ditch the fascinate and get that. I feel like this phone is going to turn into verizons red headed step child and get neglected. we'll probably get froyo and that's it... :(

I think anything from Verizon not labeled "Driod" is a red headed step child.
