No data signal while on phone

This morning I was on a conference call, and tried to read an email that had embedded images, but I was not able to download anything. "Connection to server lost" said the phone.

I later discovered that I still had WIFI enabled.

Does this phone not grab a data signal as long as WIFI is enabled?

I believe that unless you are connected to a WiFi network you cannot use data while you are on call. In other words, you can't talk and "surf" at the same time unless you are connected to a WiFi network.

This is more a deficiency with Sprint's network than it is the phone from what I understand.

Welcome to CDMA. Neither Verizon or Sprint can do data and voice at the same time unless you're on a Wifi network as well (and possibly 4G I dunno about that one)

When LTE is standard on Sprint yes because you'll be connected to LTE, but no our Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G's will never be able to do voice and data at the same time without simultaneous a wifi or wimax connection.
