no headphone jack might not be so bad.

This might be a dumb question, but is the recent Bluetooth hack that was in the news a few weeks ago going to be an issue in a world with no headphone jacks? I realize that that particular hack was taken care of in recent security updates, but can it potentially be tweaked and used again?

Technically anything can have vulnerabilities when it comes to wireless stuff. Having them patched is the key which is why it is nice to have a Google phone.

Such as WiFi with the KRACK hack. We won't have to worry since we can be sure we will be patched.

That's the thing. The only oem with truly reliable and quick security updates is Google. I'm sure Samsung is good too, but I've never used one of their phones. But, if companies like Huawei, Lenovo, and Xioami start following the no headphone jack trend, they will seriously have to up their update game.

You can still use your headphones

Also, keep in mind, once headphones cease to be analogue jacks better products will surface. You can buy a better pair of headphones and get a better dac with it. So sound will ACTUALLY improve. Also, sound will be consistent across all devices.

For those with experience, please you advise.
My understanding is that the pixel 2 is BT 5
Should I make sure I buy earbuds with BT 5, or will 4.1 be ok? 5 seem hard to find in uk whereas 4.1 seem very common
Thanks

4.1 or 4.2 will be fine. Headphones with BT 5 don't exist yet. Probably won't be any until next year.

Great thanks. Now I just need to find some, actually thinking about on ear ones for comfort instead of ear buds, as long as they are comfortable and compact.. cheers

It's still a major pain for me until there is good availability of headphones which plug in, at decent prices. I have some nice earbuds and headphones that I have used for a good while, across multiple devices. At any given time, I have a work phone and a personal phone. When the headset battery dies, I have to hope I didn't leave the dongle at home. I would have to carry 2 dongles and a headset for wired. And the issue with bluetooth is that I've had more than one occasion where I discovered the battery was dead. It probably got turned on (or I forgot to turn it off) and just ran down. That's bad to discover when you need it. And the thing about having 2 phones is that it might be connected to my rarely-used-but-still-important work phone, run down, and then when I actually want to use it, it's unavailable. I need a corded solution.

Is the dongle not working for anyone else? I have to try to get it to recognize it/the headphones several times before it works for me.

I use Airpods on my S7 and they work like a dream. I love them and as long as they work on the Pixel just as good, then I will be happy. I have some nicer Bose bluetooth headphones but I don't use those near as much.

does your ear hurt when u use airpod for a long period of time. i had issues with older wired apple earphones. they hurt my ears after using it for a while

No, my ears do not hurt after long use. I believe this to be the simple fact that my ears are the lucky set that Apple thought airbuds/airpods would work perfect for. However, I know this is not the case for many other people, such as my sister, who can not tolerate Apple buds period. Bottom line is, if the newer version of Apple buds fit comfortable, Airpods will too. And if they hurt, these too will hurt.
