after checking xda and google forums i see that a lot of s6 and edge users don't have the option to use ok google from any screen anymore. i have a g3 and i have the same problem. and when i try to use voice search in the app it crashes.

i've reset the audio history settings on google and i've reinstalled the app several times. there are no options except "from the google app." my language is set to english (us) and still nothing. any ideas?

Mine works from any screen and i have the Sprint variant. Here's how to check or turn it on.

1) Hold the home button (circle) until the Google icon pops up.
2) Slide finger to Google icon to open
3) On the Google search bar locate the menu button (3 horizontal slashes) and tap.
4)Tap "Settings"
5)Tap "Voice"
6)Tap "Ok Google detection"
7)See if "from any screen" is turned on (second option). If not ....turn it on. It should work once you turn it on. My wife's worked as soon as she exited the menu. I had to restart phone but it has worked fine.

as you can see from the screenshot, i don't have the option to turn on "from any screen". it literally doesn't exist for me.

Long press on a blank part of your screen. Select Widgets. Scroll until you find the Google search widget, and then long press to place on your screen. Now you should have the OK Google feature.

Hmm. I had a co-worker who has the Gal S6 and had the same issue after a Samsung update for wifi calling enhancements. His didn't work for about a month then all of a sudden it started working. I searched the forums here and it has been an issue on other phones as well after a small update was pushed to the phones. So...I'm thinking an app or some update was pushed to the phone causing the "bug". Like i said i have the Sprint variant and no issues. Didn't t-mo push an update for wifi calling or volte recently? If so when and was ok google working before that?

I had the same issue on my G3. I resolved it by uninstalling the Google app in the Playstore and reinstalled to original. It seems if I allow the Google app to automatically update it kills it working on my G3, so I disabled the auto update setting also.

Try what Martin said to do. I actually uninstalled my Google app and I had no options like your screen shot. Re-installed the Google app and options came back.

Just a quick thanks Martin. Been fighting with this for a long time and finally have my lovely ok Google back and working. And I guess it change really matter that I don't have the latest update to Google on my phone!
