No more unlimited data?

Now I know I'll be in the minority here, but what's the point of trying to fight it? All the wireless carriers are going to do it eventually and let's face it 5GB isn't unlimited...it's less limited than what is currently on the table(2GB & 4GB data caps). So what's the big deal? I usually come in at about 1.2GB/month and was high on 1.8GB one month. I think that most people that are scrambling to worry about this don't have much to worry about. Yes it would be nice if VZW kept up the farce of limitless wireless data, but they're not. I pay verizon for better coverage and that's about it, they're not exactly the cheapest player out there. I like my service and I for one just plan on keeping a level head and purchasing the best plan for me if/when that time comes.

I pay for unlimited, I use well over 5gb's a month, that's without tethering. I have high speed internet at home and work, but I like to download via torrent while I'm gone. (I know, I can use a remote app but I don't use a desktop and my laptop is with me almost all the time) Sprint has unlimited, but they will probably be in the same boat as AT&T and Verizon soon enough. I would find it acceptable for the majority of people who use the phone just for browsing, and email, but I'd like to have unlimited so when we DO get netflix, I won't have any worries. Those things eat up bandwidth quickly.

Ok, I'll take your word for it. What phones do we have an option to buy before they implement this?

thank god.

im tired of having to subsidize the people who just bog down the network surfing online all day.

for people like me who do little browsing this will be a god send, since ill be able to get a lower rate.

ive been wishing for this for awhile.

While I understand it's additional money(and who wants to pay additional) but you should have an aircard/mobile broadband connection. Not saying anything negative about how you use your network connections but a torrent over a 3G(or 4G) phone tether....I wouldn't do it. But that speaks to what I do use my tethering for, which is pretty rare and only for a connection for my wifi only g-tab. I think the biggest problem is that Verizon and AT&T were never truly unlimited anyway and people taking the advertised "unlimited" literally may make them feel a certain way about the new tiered plans. Yes I'd rather have my current "unlimited" data plan but I'm not going to cry about it especially when there are ISP's in a growing part of the world using metered internet service.

Yes great for you, bad for anyone who uses their 600 dollar phone to it's full potential. I use netflix, hbo go and my daughter steals my phone on trips for netflix. This move is simply to suck the user of dollars since the phone companies know more data intensive apps are coming out regularly. They know they have the money and the technology to boost their network to support the extra traffic but why miss an opportunity to make a bigger profit? We should have options. Make the capped plans considerably cheaper and leave the unlimited where it is. This way those that don't need it save some cache and those that do don't get screwed.

Probably looking at 2GB for $25, as opposed to unlimited for $5 bucks more. Yeah, keep wishing. Save that five bucks.

I use torrent for my phone for a legitimate reason. It's necessary to seed out large files to users across campus (I work at my local University) I do technical support, and when I need to have a certain download complete while I commute to work (a good hour or so) I don't have wifi and I'm not going to break out my laptop and tether or get an Air-Port card, I don't always know when I'm going to need to use it so I don't always bring turn it on in the car. Aside from that, on a normal month without downloading via torrent, I can easily eat up over 4gb's without tether, I'm CONSTANTLY on my phone for work, school, and play. I stream my music over 3g all day long, and once in a while on a commute my girlfriend will watch a ton of youtube. I understand what you're saying about torrents shouldn't be ran over 3g/4g, but I find it's acceptable as long as it's not on a regular basis. We've always been throttled but never hade a limit, if that's what you mean. I've heard of people going over 40gb's on 3g. It will be good for people who only use this phone for email/light browsing but for those who need it for work, and are constantly downloading, they better have a decent cap. Why do you have a smartphone if all you do is email anyway? That's easily done on todays feature phones. /2cents

Yeah, absolutely no way it will be considerably cheaper than what's out now. What's the point in having a smart phone that you paid a ton of money for only to have limited data? I don't pay for limited data at home, I pay for unlimited, I expect to get what I signed up for. I'd rather see a bandwidth decrease than limited data. 4g/lte is going to blow through 2gb's like nothing. Why have such high speeds if you can't use them for downloads?

I pay for the peace of mind, not the data so to speak. Looking at my account over the last three months, between 2 x Dinc, and a Fascinate, we average just under 4GB per month. I'm sure we could manage on a family plan of 5GB per month for $30, instead of paying $90 between three phones. However, I'm not sure I WANT to. It'll be interesting to see what plans they come up with if this sees daylight.

How do you know you will get a lower rate?

What's the point of spending hundreds of dollars to buy a smartphone if you aren't going to use it to the max?

The reason why I would hate tiered data so much is that everyonce in a while I go over 2 gb(what I would probaly get), also if you go over with tiered data it costs a ton.

Yeah, we also have 3 phones with unlimited data, and while it's costly, I don't have to worry about whether or not anyone goes over. We have unlimited data, minutes, pic/text, etc. just so I don't have to worry about anything. If it ends up being 5gb for $30, I'll just cut back on my use and it'll be cheaper I guess. But yes, the peace of mind is definitely why I have it.

write this down..stick to our guns we signed for unlimited and if they try to charge anything more then they will face another class action law suit... i often reload and load again my ph and i'd say its well over that 2 gb which is 1st teir then another 20 for 2 to 4 gb,, then another 10 per gb.. Verizon set the standard for my contract and i for one as much as i dislike Verizons policies ,,i will make them stick to that contract,, Unlimited period,, ask all the questions they want and i can say non of your business right back to them.
they'd make us pay through the nose if we all of a sudden wanted outta the contract.. so they dished it out now let them suck it up... we all should just for the heck of it download everything we see and then uninstall it and start again after a day .. crap enough unlimited and they will shut their mouths.. i have no mercy for Verizon,,they had great service on this mtn top in SE Tn. and when it went down they never fixed it,,, they just moved a dish on another tower to barely hit our area and it even changed my time from EST to CST. once called about that, their reply was there was nothing they could do and we had service and thats all they were required to do... so i aim to make them tote the line on this unlimited...

Verizon has already started the teir limited package.. 2 , 2 more , then over 4gb another 10 maybe 20.. peed me off so i didnt finish the reading.. check yer plans on your cpu's ..

Say you currently have an unlimited plan, if you keep getting new phones at full retail, your current contract keeps going indefinitely correct?

Yes, as far as I know. That's how it works with AT&T at least, and I would suspect the same for VZW.

no, if you change your phone, it will force a plan change

This isn't entirely accurate, if you buy at full retail you are *NOT* changing your contract. The only way that would change is if you went from 3g to 4g. Activating phones doens't change your contract.

I'm getting a Charge next week at full price. I'm doing it mainly for keeping unlimited data.
So I'll be going from a 3g plan to 4g....will see what they do.
