No New Nexus 7!

No hardware announcement was a HUGE FAIL as far as I'm concerned. Don't give a you know what about Google Hangout and all that other stuff!
Oh well, I guess I'll give my money to someone else....
Although I was mildly disappointed, I wasn't completely surprised and don't look at it as a "fail". Keep in mind that the event is the Google developers conference, not hardware engineers conference. Last year's unusual hardware announcements were widely leaked ahead of time, while this year there were only wishful rumors.

Also, the hardware last year made sense, as Google really needed something to promote the Android ecosystem and encourage developers. All that hardware from last year is still relevant in terms of its technical specs, so the need for a May announcement of new products wasn't very pressing. Android has solidified its presence so significantly during the past year that new or updated Nexus hardware really wasn't a priority.

Lastly, I doubt that Google cares if you give your money to someone else when buying a tablet, as long as it's an Android tablet. They don't really make any money from selling hardware, which is why this year's conference is, for the most part, about the things they do make money on.

With all that said, it was still kind of a bummer that no N7 announcement was made. Here's hoping for summertime!

I would have bought it if it was ready, will probably still get it when it is. I was also surprised, but if waiting means more polish, I'm a fan.

If they really wanted to cater to developers it seems like they could have cut the keynote by about an hour and focused more on the APIs and less on the Google+ features.

I would take improved compatibility with services, apps and OS's that arent available to N7 users right now then a new device any day.

Google+ is a something they want developers to integrate. We get the pitch at every google developer event. They want developers to totally embrace the full span of the Google ecosystem, from payments, Chrome, big data, analysis, cloud stored, etc.

The Nexus devices are meant to provide developers with hardware that can take advantage of Google's services and thus generate revenue. The devices are also meant to push hardware manufacturers to do better to differentiate their products from the psudeo-reference Nexus devices.

i sold my N7 prior to I/O in anticipation of an update! So I'm thinking I'll go N10. I would say that if they didn't update the N7 now, they won't until Fall.

That was a crazy thing to do, I'd never sell my Nexus because of a rumour of something better.

Well if you want to be on top of it and get more money for your device, it's a risk I'm willing to take.

Can't wait to replace my 8GB Nexus 7! I think it will be announced within 2 months. Probably around the same time as last year. July.

And no android 4.3. ITS REAL! it showed up on sooo many server logs! WHY DIDNT GOOGLE SHOW IT?

IMO, it was to show they can update android's core apps (play, music, wallet, etc) with out needing to push out a new version of android and "sidestep" carriers and OEM's. At least, that's how I interpreted it.

I don't think so. There are rumors that a N7 successor will be released in July along with 4.3 (which would make more sense considering that would be the one year anniversary of the OG N7 release.

Google just pulled an Apple from 2 years ago with Siri.

I was so pumped about a new higher res Nexus 7.
Sold my Galaxy Tab 10.1 two months ago and was ready to buy it as soon as it was available.

Impatience, that's the attitude!

Not really necessary saying I/O was a "huge fail" especially considering, as many have already said, I/O IS NOT OVER. Why do people make assumptions so early on? Especially considering the N7 HASN'T EVEN BEEN OUT FOR A YEAR yet.

No offense/troll meant with the caps, just trying to put emphasis. Sorry for the rage post.

The N7 was announced at the end of June. Maybe we'll hear good news about its successor next month..
