I have had the S3 for some time and have been able to replace the battery. I believe this has helped me extend the use of the S3.

If I am going to spend the money on an S7, I want to make sure it will last for about 3 years. Will the built in battery last that long?

Thanks.

Well there is no way to know for sure, BUT these batteries are designed to last longer than 3 years. Many if not most phones these days do not have replaceable batteries. That ship has sailed. If you want a phone with a replaceable battery your choices are very limited these days. I'm going to say no it's not a major disadvantage except for the fact you can't swap in a freshly charged battery when you run low on juice. Solution? Have extra charge cords on hand, one at home, one at the office, one in the laptop bag, one at the lake house, etc And/or use an external battery/charger.

Thanks. I was not aware that phones were trending towards non-replaceable batteries. I have not had a new phone since S3.

Well my Tab Plus (same year as Galaxy S2) still is going strong on the original battery. I'd expect the ones on the S7 to stand good for at least 2 years. If you're worried, just read about how to take better care of your battery at the batteryuniversity website.
