No S-Pen integration for the Fold 5

If reports that the Fold 5 will not have an integrated S-pen turn out to be true, what other improvements would be required to warrant an upgrade from the Fold 4? Without S-Pen integration, the justification to upgrade would be borderline for me.

I don't plan upgrading to the Fold 5 regardless if Samsung had integrated an S-Pen to it, but I think some of the complaints against the Fold series have been about battery life, crease and the narrow cover screen.

I think if one of those three gets improved... it could push Fold 4 users to upgrade.

I think Samsung better concentrate on the inside screen, and screen protector improvements. You're talking about a $500+ screen. The inside screen is the number one issue.

I can tell you one thing, it's going to take something great for me to upgrade to the fold 5. Not the normal "oh look you can do this camera trick". Samsung relies on the camera tricks to get people to upgrade. We better see dust resistance, improved inside screen, namely the screen protector.

I'm seriously considering dumping the fold, which says a lot. I love the fold but I don't see it as a 2 year phone and I wouldn't consider having a fold without the insurance. I see it as a 1 year phone and that there is why I'm considering dumping it. It is too expensive to be a 1 year phone. If Samsung sticks with the low trade INS that will make owning the fold very expensive.

With the S23U out there it gives me high expectations on the fold.

In a nut shell, forget the spen on the fold 5, let's get the hardware up to date. We need bigger improvements on the fold 5 before spen silo.

Samsung supposedly dropped the Note line in order to get people to use the Fold. Not having an internal S Pen is not a good look and no, the S line is NOT A NOTE! Never was, never will be.

Damn, I miss my Note 20 Ultra. I've used Samsung devices exclusively since the original Note. It may be time to delve into what other manufacturers are offering if the Fold 5 doesn't deliver.

I never had a Note... Naming aside, can you explain how the S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra aren't Notes? They really look like Notes to me. But like I said, I never owned a Note so I could be missing something.

Half of the Note fans actually call them Notes...

I've had both and I would like to know the difference also. Most often it's a mind thing. Note users always thought the note was a superior phone over the S series. It was in the beginning but over time the 2 phones started becoming the same phone with the spen being the difference. Change is always hard for all of us.

I think the only thing that's different from the Note series was expandable storage other than that... both the latest S23/S22 Ultra share the same design/features as the Note.

However, if I'm not mistaken... S series had expandable storage as well.

I agree completely. I rolled from the Note 20 Uktra ro the S22 Ultra, to the s22 Ultra, and it feels like a Note to me.
I think the losers here are those that want an Sxx Ultra with rounded corners and no sPsen.
But I am happy because I want my sPen.

Likewise, I've never had a Note, but family and friends did. I don't see anything different about the S22 Ultra, S23 Ultra and the Notes.

It was the last and the first to lose it. Note 20U was the last flagship I think, But the Note 10 was the first to lose it. I member saying at the time that it was Sammy dipping a toe in the water to see if they could finally get away with removing it from all flagships and getting a little roasted. But me gloating about being correct isn't really relevant lol.

Agree. I don't care if it has the 100 zoom, but better camera on the back. Don't mess with the under screen camera on inside screen.

You are correct, but I was just talking about in the modern era. There were bigger reasons to not buy Samsung back then lol. I'm looking at you, TouchWiz.

THe problem is it would be unusably massive and heavy.
