ok search only brought up one related topic to this phone but didnt answer part of the question:

Does the Nexus S work without a SIM card (for development purposes)? I know its been said that it "does", but does paid apps work, market place work including paid apps, nag screens on power up, and any known issues with apps not functioning without data?

Thanks.

I would imagine yes. You'll see an icon saying to insert SIM. But with a WIFI you should still be able to get the market and all paid apps.

While I've not tried specifically on the Nexus S, my Nexus one is now running without a SIM and I've had no issues. It's even gotten the android 2.2.2 update. (Waiting on the 2.3.3!).

I've been able to load paid, free, and any other app.

I pulled my SIM card out and rebooted my phone. As expected, it still functions:

Note: I am running a custom ROM, but I don't think that makes a difference.

Ok what about first time use? Ie activation screen. Does the sim need to be in?

Thanks for your help thus far.
