Android Central Question
Many apps do not play sound, also causing video lags in video players. I got some of these apps to work using SoundAbout with headphones plugged in.
System: I have a new Xiaomi Mi 5s, on which I installed a LineageOS 14.1 ROM (Android Nougat) and gapps.
Different apps behave differently. For example:
- Google Photos video player: no sound and choppy video. Only works with headphones and using SoundAbout to route audio via "Wired Headphones"
- YouTube app: similar to Google Photos, but had to route audio via "Wired Headset (with Mic)".
- Chrome-embedded YouTube: works without a glitch.
VLC player may shed some light on the subject: It didn't work at first, but now it works perfectly after I configured it to use "OpenSL ES" instead of "AudioTrack" (Settings => Advanced => Audio output). It works with and without headphones.
Phone calls, ringtones and alarms work fine.
I haven't tried bluetooth yet.
