Hi, not aware of a change I made, however, now, the phone is not sending sound notifications for email (K9 mail) or texts (Textra). Still get icons for both. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Sorry to be obvious -- Settings, Sound and Vibrations, and then see if anything changed.

What about the volume buttons?

Is there some type of "do not disturb" setting(s) -- which turns the sound off across the board -- which may have gotten turned on/activated?

I see you are a relatively new user here - welcome to Android Central!

If you're using third-party SMS and email apps like Textra and K9, it may be worth checking to make sure that they are indeed set as your default messaging apps. Sometimes your phone may get its wires crossed if you have multiple SMS apps. I know that if I toggle from Google SMS to Textra, I have to make sure that I give Textra permission to read my texts, etc and that my notification sounds are all set up correctly.

Also, Textra has an amazing developer support team - if you contact them (via the app) with your issue, they will be very prompt in getting back to you. I've contacted them a few times over the years and they were always very prompt and helpful.

Keep us posted!

You can try reset app preference
Settings>apps>3 Dots upper right corner tap>app preference

Thank you all, I have taken your advice, but sofar still no luck. The only change I believe I have made is adding a few gmail accounts to K9. It is odd and frustrating.
The phone rings as expected.

I'm sorry that you are still having trouble! So phone calls are coming in and ringing as normal?

Let me show this thread to the Moderators and Ambassadors. Hang tight!

Also, a Cache Partition wipe may help. If not, and the above suggestions don’t help, try Safe Mode.

Thanks again, yes, I have done a cache partition wipe, also the method to check or uncheck the boxes. Still no luck.I'll try safemode next.

So I put phone in safemode, but don't know what to do next. In safemode the downloaded apps are not accessable?Missing something?

Yeah it disables all 3rd party apps , try your regular message app if problem still happening otherwise this method won't help you.

Having paid more attention to your opening post I now realise that both the apps you mention are third-party apps, so Safe Mode will disable them. That’s not what you’re wanting, so I apologise, although, as @mustang7757 says, Safe Mode will allow you to test whether any third-party apps are causing trouble with your stock email and texting apps. But that is not the problem, is it?

No, that is not the problem. But...... operator error is! Apparently my samsung Wear app on my phone had muted the phone. I really don't think I did that myself, but I must have. So the sound notifications are working again.
THANK YOU so very much for your help.
