no sprint broadband EV

My wife just got a moment and is having problems.

The phone connects to our home wi-fi, but will not connect to Sprint mobile broadband.

She has never once seen the "EV" at the top of her screen when away from home. The sprint man said the phone should connect automatically.

We cannot find anyplace on the phone to get it to connect without wi-fi.
Are we doing something wrong or is there a problem with this phone?

Try holding the power button down and selecting Airplane mode. Wait 10-15 seconds then repeat the process to disable airplane mode. This will reset the cdma radio and data radio. See if this helps. If not bring the phone back to sprint.

You might want to ensure you have an updated PRL. It is possible this could help you pending on your location.

Yep, go with the PRL update...

Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Update PRL

That's your Preferred Roaming List

Should help the problem if 3G is available where you are.
