No Stay Awake Selection in Development Area ??

The rooting thread here says it is for the Samsung Droid Charge. But one of the first steps is to enable usb debugging and stay awake. On my Charge there is no stay awake selection box like there was on my original Moto Droid. Only available selections are debugging and mock locations. What gives? Is it still safe to root? I want to use hotspot tethering and want to get it up and running before VZW turns off the free period.

Unless of course you can give me an easier way to activate the hotspot ...
