no text alert sounds after KitKat update

Since I updated my phone, none of my text alert sounds work. If I try to change the alert, it won't play any of them in the preview mode either. My ringtone, alarm tone, etc. work just fine. My phone will vibrate and show a preview of the text when I receive one, but does not make any sound. Have tried restarting the phone, changing the alert tone, nothing works. Please help!!!
