No update showing for January security patch on Nexus 6P

At the risk of getting flamed, it's really nice to get the iOS update experience on an Android advice. Even if it's delayed a couple of days, it's great to know you have the latest and greatest software Google has to offer.
It is good. I don't mind waiting a few days to a week etc. Was bored yesterday and decided to flash myself. Haven't used fastboot in years. Piece of cake and done in 5 min. That's the beauty of the Nexus :)

I'm a Nexus user, since the Nexus One. I've actually fallen victim to a "bad" update that was pulled after I got it during the beginning of the rollout on the Nexus S.

Waiting the few weeks to get the "good" update was horrible :P

Having said that, I got the January patch just a few minutes after it was officially released. I honestly wasn't thrilled lol.

Thank you all. Guess I'll wait a couple of days for OTA, then go to Flash-Town! :D

Honestly, not getting the monthly security update within a couple days isn't really worth flashing.

A point release to the os that fixes a major memory leak? Yeah, that may be worth it...

Where are you located? I think it's released by geographical region. I don't usually get mine until the 3rd week. I'm in NYC.
Hello. It seems that the update schedule is totally random as I too am in NYC and I got the update yesterday morning.

Sorry.

Google knows better than to make you wait.

mine not updated yet. I find this very annoying, I bought a Nexus phone to receive the updates first and not have to keep desperately checking for an update! Screw you G00gl3!

There factory images were released 2 or 3 days ago, calm down guy.

They are released in batches. Other phones wait months for an update -- To me waiting a week or less to get the update really isn't that bad at all.

Also you don't have to keep checking. The phone will notify you once the update is there as it checks on its own.

If you need the security update that bad Fastboot the img. I was bored the other day and decided to download from Google and sideload it. Took like 5 min total. Keeps all userdata intact also.

Yep, people can use NRT if they aren't familiar with how to do it through the cmd prompt.. I'll never again wait for the OTA. AT&T N6 on 6.0.1 January patch. :)

but wouldn't that prevent me from getting OTA updates in the future?

Just got mine. Is this how Nexus phones handle updates? If so, that's pretty badass! I was just fiddling around and it let me know and also what the update was.

Yello! I just got my update a few minutes ago. Downloaded, restarted, and optimized all apps within 10 short minutes. Says security patch level January 1, 2016. This really is pretty bad-***!

Matrix Leader - I read somewhere, probably on this very thread, that Google choses phones randomly. If your phone has checked for update once and has not received any, it will not do so for the rest of that day. Even though your phone checks for update on its own, doing another manual check once a day for personal satisfaction should suffice. Hold on tight buddy. You should be getting it sooner rather than later! :)

It might be better to reframe your approach to update timing. I just assume the updates will hit my phone by the 15th of every month. I can still bask in the knowledge that I get monthly updates but my month markers are the 15th.

It's still MUCH MUCH MUCH better than contract phones.

Mine notified me of the update as I was getting in the car to leave work. I haven't installed it yet.

I wonder why Google chooses to roll out the updates in batches as opposed Apple's way of making it available to everybody at the same time.

I read this before, cannot find the link now...but Google simply says that it allows them to hold the update in case any of the waves report an issue. So if Wave 1, 2, 3 and so forth are going smoothly with no major issues reported, then the speed at which the update deploys increases.

It makes sense because of the volume of devices these updates are being pushed to.

I think you're on to something. My November and December updates came on the 10th for my 6P. My N6 and N7 seem to be a few days off. It's nice to have three Nexus devices that are up to date.

Thanks, makes sense, but man I'm impatient...even for a security patch :(

Still, Apple has way more volume then the Android devices where Google can push out the updates (vs. the carriers/manufacturers) yet Google is known to have much better network/server capabilities than Apple.
