...So the reviews are saying the YouTube HQ app isn't installed. Not a dealbreaker but I'm lil disappointed. Especially since their marketing the Epic as a multimedia powerhouse. Is there be a way we could add the YouTube HQ app from the EvO to the Epic?

Just like I replied in the other thread. I don't think we know for SURE what is coming with the phone and what has been excluded. This thing is still over 2 weeks out and I'm not convinced that every review unit was the same.

Well not that I own the captivate or the Vibrant- but youtube HD aren't on those phones- and there's no reason they COULDN'T support it over wifi...at the very least- which has me thinking this must somehow be an Evo exclusive for a period of time.

I was thinking that also. A member in another forum hinted to an .apk somewhere over at XDA...

Most Android YouTube players allow you to adjust the quality in the menu for each video.

I'm more concerned about the lack of the Samsung Music Player. Plus... with the new lock screen, how would the dropdown music controls work anyway? It's all kinds of lame...

I played with the Vibrant and if you do menu, there is an option for higher quality, but Tmobile 3g must suck because it took a while to load, so long that after a while I just left it so couldn't see the quality.

exactly...dont panic people...its there...you just have to select it from the youtube options

I can confirm that it is included and is the method above to enable it... The Samsung rep was at my local Sprint store today showing the device to the reps, and although he wouldnt let me play with it he did show me that it is in the menu for Youtube.

You're welcome! Just kidding Sebastian over at AndroidForums just posted this:

Download: Youtube.apk (alt link) (alt link2)

Instructions for installation…

*Note 1* - This will remove theming from your Youtube widget.

1. Download the Youtube.apk to your SD card.
2. When the file finishes downloading, tap on it and select “OK.”
3. Then choose “Install.”
4. When it finishes select “Open” and play a video.
5. Done!

*Note 2* - If your widget does not work initially, reboot your phone and it should be fine.

EDIT: Seems the links didn't copy over here it is:

Just a few more weeks people and then we can see for ourselves what this phone is capable of doing.

It looks like we'll get the vanilla android music player and the same lock screen thats on the Intercept. I'm hoping that the hackers can include Samsung's music player in their ROMS (along with a widget that works along with it).

What exactly does this APK do? Will it give you the HQ button in the botton right corner to quickly watch videos in HQ instead of going thru the menu..?

That's exactly what it does. I downloaded that Youtube apk day 1, and it replaces the Epic's default Youtube app with the same version available on thee Evo, with the "HQ" button on the corner. So far it had worked flawlessly for me.

hmm, sounds nice. Will it have the default one back if you un-install the APK?

Just installed. What a GREAT APK... So happy I saw this thread... Works perfectly!! You can also go into the settings and have it default to HQ every time so you don't need to hit the HQ button anymore... Again, what a GREAT APK!

So true... I don't know if it's an oversight or just a lack of public knowledge, but a lot of people don't know this and wind up complaining about the lack of HD or lack of HQ for YouTube on the phone... it's there, and it's selectable! (or the default, depending on what network you're using)
