Non Activated OPtimus V Root

Does anyone have a way to root non activated Optimus V? I Have tried several ways and no luck. I want to fiddle w/ roms and am not activating phone.

I didn't think it has to be done on a activated phone. I'm pretty sure I've rooted and flashed a non working ov before.

which version of android software comes on the phone? Do you have adb set up on your computer?

Honestly I can't really remember but I know I didn't use adb, I think there was a software suite called romtools that I used to root and install a custom recovery.

try gingerbreak from xda. might take a few tries but should work eventually.
I've read it prefers the stock sd card.
after it's rooted you can use flash_image gui (also on xda) to flash a recovery.

I used gingerbreak a month ago on my brothers brandnew optimus v and it worked fine.
