NOOB at Rooting!!!

Yeah, I tried that the first time. That's where I got device not found. I'm giving up. I guess I'm not meant to have my phone rooted & rom-ed. If I do a factory reset, will it take the root away? I don't know what else I need it for...

im gonna aim you when you log on. cuz i know how it is. i think i spent like almost a week trying to root this thing. once its rooted its super super easy to flash roms and stuff.

what does it say when it says device not found?
do you have debugging turned on? is the file from the link saved onto your hard drive inside the android sdk folder>tools?

yeah make sure that stuff is done and ill aim you when i get the chance. ill be home from school tonight around 8pm pacific time. so ill hop on around then to help you out.

be there or be square

Soooo... I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUTTTT!!!! Haha. I tried a couple of ROMs but is really like AOSP Universal or whatever that's called. Its awesome!!!!! Haha. Yay!!!!

Congrats! I don't believe the Bub's AOSP ROM comes with a kernel, so make sure you install one to get the most out of your ROM.

So after installing a ROM what do I do to install a kernel? Same thing? And which one would be best? I want. Something that's fast but also great at saving battery. On my Palm Pre I overclocked to 1.05GHz and when the screen turned off it would scale automatically to 500MHz. Anything similar for the Epic?

Yes, same exact thing. I used the Baked Snack kernel, but many more things came out since I left the Epic, so there may be something better out there (Baked Snack was perfect though and could overclock).

I have the AOSP ROM. So where do I get the Baked Snack Kernel? I don't want their ROM just the kernel. Idk if that's possible or even makes sense. I like the UI that comes with this current ROM.

your going to have to go to bakedsnackshack.com, i think thats it, if not just type that into google or bakedsnack epic 4g. and then go to the downloads page.

your going to have to flash the bakedsnack rom first. and then flash your aosp rom and itll have the aosp rom with the bakedsnack kernel

what were you doing wrong?

I have no clue. I just decided to keep doing it over and over about 18 times. No lie. And then it worked. So idk. It was weird. Haha.

If I don't want to overclock anymore can I just uninstall the Overclocking Widget and it will set it back to normal? My phone is already fast so I don't think there is a reason for me to overclock. Plus I want to save battery... So... Idk. Help?

on the overclock widget did you have anything checked that said "set at boot"

because in setcpu theres a setting for set at boot, and thatll make it overcloked every time you boot up. so if you dont have that checked then if you reboot your phone open up the overclock widget and see if it went back to 1ghz. if it did then you can uninstall it and itll be fine.

so basically just make sure theres no "set at boot" setting clicked in order for it to go back to however the current kernel is set up

prince also,

id recommend not just going back to the stock kernel and keeping it at 1ghz.

install a new kernel, whatever one you want. look under the roms/hacks and find a kernel alert read through choose one you like.
i recommend a new kernel because typically the developer will bring the voltage down. so mixup has the voltage like 50mv less than the stock kernel at 1.2 ghz. so at 1ghz itll probably have like 100 mv less than the stock.
this translates into better battery life

Okay.. Suggestions? Like I said. I don't care how fast the phone goes. I just want some thing that will save battery.

Of course I want something that will make my phone work at a great speed but saving battery is more my issue.

How do you unroot a device? I need to take my phone in but I don't want them to not be able to do anything because I rooted it. Do I just factory reset it? Will that take care of it?

Why do you need to take your phone in?
And you couldn't find anything on this?
Or did you forget to check before posting

I found that but seeing as I wasn't sure if that's what I had to do, I figured I would ask and that way I could be for sure about it. It doesn't matter, I haven't been able to figure out how to do it anyways... It doesn't want to work for me. And I needed to take in my phone because the keys on the the physical keyboard don't work, they haven't worked since I got it but because now I rooted it, they blamed it on that. So... yeah.
