I just got done rooting with Unrevoked 3.21 with my HTC EVO. Had stock 2.2. I want to have fps cap unlocked while retaining pretty much everything else stock sense. I've read several threads and I'm thoroughly confused. What's the difference between ROM and Kernels? Do I need to install a custom ROM to install kernels or are they 2 different things?

Thanks in advanced.

They are two different things. Your phone already has a rom on it and you do not "have" to have a custom rom to run a kernel. XDA has list and how to of some very nice roms and kernels.

If you use google or wiki you can find the difference/definition between ROMS and kernels. I'd link it to you, but I'm at work and most sites are blocked for me here.

Yeah two different things.... I am relatively new to rooting and customer ROM's and I could be mistaken (Please correct me if I am wrong) but I have read that not all Kernals work with all ROM's.... There can be some conflicts between the ROM's and Kernals.....

Being new like yourself I just installed and paid for the premium ROM manager App and I flashed a couple of different ROM's with the Kernal they add with the ROM and test out a few different things....

I have found Baked Snack 1.7 to be a great Sense ROM with a great Kernal that still allows 4G use, HDMI and it unlocks the Fps Cap.... It does how ever remove the Sprint Apps (Sprint TV, NASCAR, NFL, Sprint Zone, Etc) but you can go and install each one by one if you want them....

I used unrevoked to root my phone. I got the paid version of rom manager and when i try to download a rom it says I have to have clockwork mod recovery installed. I thought i got this when i used unrevoked. Anyway, I click install to install it and it say there isn't a stable internet connection or my sd card isn't inserted. I wanted baked snack as well. Anyone know what's going on?

No clue. I did the clockwork mod recovery as well after installing the rom manager. no problems here.

When in ROM manager make sure your on the latest clockwork recovery version... I used unrevoked the hard way and I was able to flash Baked Snack and Vaelpak with no problems at all...
