Ok first sorry if I am repeating an already posted question. I searched

I have a Sprint GS3 4.1.1 rooted (Team Epic) I am fairly new and havent done anything crazy yet. No ROMS or anything. Just messed around with CPU tuner, added Wifi tether, and turned off my shutter sound.

I want to install the 4.1.2 update.

Is there another way other than unroot back to stock, install the update, and re-root the device?

If so what all do I have to back up? What will I lose? Will I lose texts, apps, etc.?

Again I am new to root (first rooted device I ever owned I rooted myself) Thanks for your patience.

You should always do a back up of everything...just in case. If you don't do a full system restore in recovery then your texts & apps should still be there.

Sorry I don't have the links to the exact threads. First find the thread on updating to MA6 follow the intstructions in post 2, then go to thread on updating to MB1 and follow the instructions in post 2. This is after making sure you are on a Sprint
GS3 and have custom recovery.

And here is to one to go from MA6 to MB1

Since you're rooted, you do NOT need to update to MA6 first. Follow the instructions in post 2 of the MB1 thread, but note this: You do NOT need to do the factory reset step. Many of us here have done this without a reset and had no issues. But understand that there is a slight possibility that something on the phone will be glitchy after the update. If so, you can do the factory reset then.
