Nook Color - Heat Issue?

My NookColor sometimes gets fairly warm on the bottom right side. This is relative to when the Nook is upright ('n' button on the bottom). It doesn't get 'extremely' hot, but it gets noticeably warm, usually within a few minutes of use when it does happen.

I'm just curious if this is somehow normal operation or if it could be due to some problem?

Mine sometime gets a little warm when I am doing something that requires a lot of CPU/GPU cycles such as watching a movie. But when reading a book it seems to be close to ambient temperature.

Hmm, all right. Do apps close in the background or are they 'always running' somehow? The thought came to me a few minutes ago because I have a tendency to go into various apps a lot. Curiosity asks if maybe they're 'hogging' some CPU or something.

Yes, apps are running in the background. I use Advanced Task Killer Free.
