Not a DROID it is an ANDROID

lol i hate when people say they have "droids" when they really, um... dont. to me its like calling all cars porsches, in a way. my sisters friend has a "droid fascinate", this kid at work told me today that he wants a "droid thunderbolt", and i couldnt even tell you how many times people asked me if my optimus s was a droid. thats like someone saying they have a "porshe murcielago", or a "porsche charger", or going to a friends house in your BMW and having them go, "nice porsche!" a droid is a droid, just like a porsche is a porsche. one line of phones should not define every android phone on the market, just because it has a catchy name.

Doesn't bother me, like someone else said the term droid has just become slang for all android devices. No biggie.

I understand the discrepancy between Droid (s) and Android. But I usually hear people referring to any Android device as a "DROID." I just like going up to people and doing my best impersonation of the whole DROID noise whenever I get the chance :D

People should be thankful that everyone calls your Android phone a Droid. Why? Because if it wasn't for Verizon and their marketing department, Android would still be nowhere. T-Mobile had Android first and they did a HORRIBLE job at giving the OS mind-share, and Sprint only jumped on the bandwagon after Verizon made it popular. Let's not even mention AT&T, who are only going to Android now because they're losing the iPhone exclusivity.

Agreed with everything you just said slinky. Verizon did a brilliant job marketing and advertising the Original Droid, and I think they've continued that through this day.

Idk about that. I agree that VZW did a great job marketing but I think its more an issue of ineptitude and lack of general knowledge about the difference between the hardware and software. Not even taking into consideration that the word droid is in the separate word "Android", I think its an easy mistake for a new user to the OS or devices themselves to just consider it a Droid.
