Exactly. I just bought myself an older Chromecast 4k for just this reason. Think I paid about $50 Canadian.I believe the problem is that the Firestick uses Miracast, which Pixels don't support. You'd have to use a Chromecast-compatible device for your TV, like the Google TV Streamer or Walmart's onn. Google TV streaming box.
Sorry that this is a disappointment, but I could also look at it the other way -- why can't Amazon make their devices compatible with Chromecast? Miracast is a pretty old technology (introduced in 2012) and its support has waned over the years. The reason why your 5 year old Huawei can do it is partly because it's 5 years old.
Reasonable? On a Pixel forum? Recommend going to a different phone to support an older technology? Make sense of that to me, please?Samsung phones still support Miracast, so that would be a reasonable option.
Android Central is for all things Android. You may be posting in a Pixel subforum, but that doesn't mean we won't consider any other manufacturer. Since you seem pretty dismayed about the lack of MIracast support, I was pointing you to another option. Or you could replace the Fire Stick with a Google TV device (which would be much cheaper).Reasonable? On a Pixel forum? Recommend going to a different phone to support an older technology? I get the overal gist. My point being that the OP came here as a new Pixel user and I was perplexed by the idea of referring them to another device with an outdated technology to solve their dilemma. I was asking to understand why that part made sense when the better explanation was the Chromecast solution.Android Central is for all things Android. Oh whoops, I had it in my mind that you were the OP. I certainly think replacing the Firestick would make the most sense, but for all I know, the OP might be really committed to Amazon's ecosystem, so without the benefit of an Amazon phone (insert hilarious flashback to the Fire Phone here), a Samsung phone would be the next best option.I get the overal gist.
