okay, i've been looking around the forums, and have found people with similar issues but not quite the same one.

i'm getting the "Not able to verify whole-file signature" message when trying to reboot into clockwork. i've already done the flash with odin, and rom manager. can't think of what else it might be... any help?

Welcome to Android Central. What did you flash with ODIN, what did you do with rom manager?

When you flashed clockworkmod recovery in rom manager, it put a new update.zip on your phone. Reflash the cwm-all with ODIN and you will be fine.

before i go any further, i just did the reflash and it says

<ID:0/004> Completed..
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)
<ID:0/004> Removed!!

and the green box has a "PASS!" with the smaller green box underneath just saying "0:7"

and my phone seems to currently be off. is this normal/correct? do i just turn it on? or should have done a full reboot?

That is correct. Should have taken about 7 seconds to load the file in ODIN. Now just put the battery back in your phone, hold the volume up, volume down, and power buttons until you see samsung flash on the screen for a second time, then let go of all three buttons and you will boot to cwm-recovery-all.

How are you booting into recovery mode? And when you use that method are you booting to stock blue recovery?

I have noticed that when I had an update.zip in the root of my SD card I was not able to successfully flash "cwm-recovery-ALL.tar". It would flash in Odin without issue but booting to CWM would fail as it would try to load the update.zip and fail with errors.

Make sure you remove the update.zip from the root of your SD card. Then flash "cwm-recovery-ALL.tar" through Odin.

landshark: i'm gong through "Reboot into recovery" in ROM manager. and yes it goes to stock blue after the error appears.

SS: so go into my files on my phone and delete update.zip? could you be more specific? i'm kind of a noob and don't want such an expensive paper weight lol

I did not notice / see you were using ROM manager.

You can remove update.zip from the root of your SD card or move it to another folder on your SD Card. just get update.zip out of /sdcard/update.zip. By default this file is not there and is not required for the phone to boot load operate etc.

You are trying to get into recovery mode with RED CWM your best bet is to do the following:

1. Either delete update.zip off the root of your SD CARD. You can use the file manager provided on your phone in your apps for this. You don't need root to access your SD card. (although for what you want to do you should be rooted)

2. Shut down your phone

3. Pull battery

4. While holding down VOL DOWN plug in your USB cable

5. Phone will be in download mode. (yellow triangle etc)

6. Open Odin

7. Click PDA and browse to "cwm-recovery-ALL.tar" on your local computer

8. Click start (takes 5 ot 10 seconds). When it is complete phone will shut off on its own.

9. Pop in your batter and turn it on. You should boot directly to RED CWM

There is your problem right there. Do not reboot to recovery through rom manager. There are two ways you can boot to recovery: 1) Hold the power button for about two seconds until a menu appears on your phone. One of the options in that menu is recovery, click that; and 2) Hold the volume up, volume down, and power buttons until you see samsung flash on your screen twice then let go of all three buttons.

To get rid of the update.zip file, with your phone in debugging mode, plug your phone into your pc with the usb cord that came with your phone, pull down the notification bar and click usb connected, click on the gray "connect usb storage" button, click OK. An auto play window will appear on your pc, click on "open folder to view files." The window that opens will be the root of your sd card, simply right click on the update file and choose delete.

The only bad part of cwm-all is if you are on noonvoodoo, it will not stick on your phone after you flash a ROM through cwm. So after every time you flash a new ROM, you will have to reinstall cwm-all through ODIN.

well... i deleted the update.zip. then reflashed with odin, and only got the blue stock recovery screen. tried to go ahead and flash it through rom manager too and still nothing...
also, it didn't boot straight to CWM after odin flash...

on another note, i noticed voodoo folder on my phone when looking for the update file. so can i safely assume i have voodoo as well?
