Not again... Note 9 Fire Alleged in Lawsuit

When the first cRapple XR or whatever version of their new overpriced phone comes out I bet it won't get much coverage when one melts down. Apple phones have done this as well. When that one did it on that airline flight much wasn't made of it.

I'm not worried at all. 1 phone and it's been on the market for 3 weeks now.

I don't see any recalls again after all the testing they do with their batteries now unless it was a defective battery batch. In that case I'd gladly take a replacement Note 9.

My Note 9 runs smooth and cool!

Unlike my dads POS S7 that was heating up a lot. That thing always ran hot. Hence why he bought my Note 8 off me.

LOL, I know this person - she helped me find a house a few years ago (never closed and I moved on). I know this has nothing to do with it, just thought it was such a coincidence.

I'm not worried about it. If this were an issue this would have blown up big time by now due to the Note 7. You would have heard all sorts of cases by now.

Samsung takes battery safety seriously now and does a lot of testing. It would take something radical in the supply chain for something like the Note 7 to happen again.

Also, there was cases of S7s doing this as well.

I will say I think the Note 7 BS has blown over. I work at a flea market selling cell stuff and already have had probably almost 10 or so people looking for Note 9 cases. At the time I either did have them yet, or I simply don't have the type they want since most of the cases I got in right now are Defender style cases.

I'm kind of suprised because usually it's lower income type that shop there a lot and have cheaper phones like LG. Just suprised so many people have bought the Note 9 already.

Well it hit the news circuit 4 hours ago. Might wait until Monday around noon before saying it is a non story.

So does never closed and you moved on mean she didn't do her job right, seller decided not to accept offer or you just chose not to go for the house? You dont have to answer if I'm being to nosy lol. Just curious:)

I would also question the motives of the suit. One thing is this state court judge can't just order the halt to Note 9 sales, especially nation wide. Secondly, a suit against Samsung would be suited in federal court for a number of reasons. Sounds like she wants a quick buck especially running this fast to file a lawsuit just days after it happens.

You run into realtors, and other "professionals" at times like this. They're narcissist and stuck up and won't follow through and do their job right. When we moved down to FL 3 years ago we had this with a realtor. Stuck up, arrogant and would give us suggestions on houses way out of our range. Ended up moving further south in the state and the other realtor ours in St. Louis recommended us to was great. Patient, personal and always answered questions. Even gave us a card with $50 in giftcards in it a couple months later.

Sounds like she got an ambulance chaser. Personally if it were me I'd ask for compensation from Samsung to replace my stuff. IF that didn't work then I'd get a lawyer and try and get them to compensate me for a new phone and damages to the stuff in the purse. On Samsung's part giving her a few grand to shut her up and not file suit would be the best route and call it a day.

To get to the point of suing this soon after it happens when there were no serious injuries is bs.

Dang. Crazy. Guess time will tell.

setting aside the actual danger of a phone battery rupturing.

The big issue for samsung on this is that the note 7 is only two years old, and still fresh in the news and peoples memory, especially the news. I just read an article, very recent, about a woman whos S5 did the same and she was suing. Samsung is open game. If the Note 7 issue had happened on an iphone articles like this would pop up EVERY time there was any battery malfunction. People STILL rip on apple because they were late to the 4G game.

Negative reviews take a long time to fade away. I still know old car guys who complain about fuel injection because of the Corvette fuilie, or ford and their 4 decades of using twin I beam front suspension, my father still regales me of the time he worked for the railroad in the late 60's, they bought brand new ford fleet pickups. They had a big problem that when you slammed the door, and you had to slam it, they parking brake would kick off, he saw one roll down a nice steep hill because of it. Toyota and the airbags, Chrysler and the 90's, and 2000's, and now. Pontiac and the Aztec.

People move on and the news being the news highlites something like this EVERY time there is a possible issue with a battery. Kinda like when hacker con or whatever it is called, there are tons of articles telling about how insecure android is.

The fact is even apple phone catch fire and possibly other phones as well. I'm not worried until there is an abundance of cases.

For me there's not enough hard facts detail in the article.

Lots of attention grabbing words such as "sizzling phone" for example.

This piece stands out "The mobile didn’t stop burning until a good Samaritan grabbed it with a cloth and plunked it into a bucket of water, Chung claims in the Queens Supreme Court lawsuit."

Just happened to have a bucket of water handy !

That would hide if the phone had previously been exposed to water thus tripping the moisture sensors.

On balance taking away conspiracy theories it'll be interesting to see how this pans out.

I'm betting Samsung will want to examine the phone.

I had to turn in 2 Note 7's. Never again. They will have to pry my Note 9 out of my charred smoking hand!!

2 things make it hard for me to believe it in a clear manner.

1) The portion of the story where it was mentioned where the phone somehow generated enough smoke to make it hard to see elevator buttons. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure a phone on fire can't make enough smoke to make it hard to see buttons on an elevator.

2) No photos. It just seems a bit fishy that there's a claim of something potentially serious but there's no photos as means of proof. When the Note7 debacle occurred, there were multiple photos, so you couldn't doubt it. But in this case, I didn't see any.

Now, I'm not jumping to conclusions as who knows what really happened. But those 2 make it kinda fishy

That's hardly implausible. Buildings with elevators and a lobby usually also have a cleaning staff.

It's difficult for people to accept that they don't know something when they have a stake in believing that it's true or false. But the reality is that we don't yet know what happened.

For me there's not enough hard facts detail in the article.
Exactly. And unless other incidents are reported, we probably won't know much more for quite some time.

I've seen videos of laboratory demonstrations of exploding phones that did in fact generate a surprising amount of smoke.

We only ever saw photos of a minority of the Note7s that burned. And we don't know if photos exist this time or if the lawsuit mentions or includes photos. All we know is that the news article so far doesn't mention or include any.

For the no photos piece, we don't know because for some reason the New York Post didn't actually link the court documents. There could be a mountain of evidence, including her medical treatment, or there could be none at all. That's why I want more and better sources.

14-15 hours after this article went up, there's still only the NYP article and us talking about it in Google search.

Absolutely, although the NYP one is currently still the only one with a BGR India post referencing it.

The lack of important information is quite baffling.
