Not an Android question, but maybe one of you techies can help me

So I've got a TV with the only audio output being an orange digital audio out (I'll attach a picture). I would like to get the audio going through my speakers which have a regular 3.5mm jack. Is there a way I can do this with a converter or something?

I've also got this converter, which I plug into the TV and put the 3.5 mm jack in the converter but the sound still comes out of my TV.

This isn't my strength, but is that a digital-to-analog converter box? On your TV, is there an menu where you can select where the audio is output to?
