is it only running a custom rom (say sprint lovers for those that want something stock)

May have the wrong impression but I'm trying to avoid whiping the phone and re running titanium backup to put everything back into place (may be easier than what i think it is)

but I was under the thought that if you had a stock rom and just wanted the rooted ota just had to wait and flash those once the ota rooted rom was out.

What are you asking? If the 3.70 OTA can be rooted? If so, then yes. The latest OTA can be rooted.

Or are you asking if it is possible to update a rooted phone using the OTA update? No, this has never changed. You should never update a rooted phone using the OTA. If you're rooted on 3.30, then your options are to flash an RUU in order to unroot--directions in the unroot sticky. Or, you can flash a stock rooted (and deodexed and zip aligned, so probably better than rooted OTA rom in any case) rom based off the latest OTA--such as Sprint lovers.
