Not Getting Text Message Notifications

This worked for me
Open the text message app.
Press button on side of the phone which changes the volume
You will then see a slider with a cog next to it. Touch the cog and more sliders appear. Adjust the notification volume slider
and Hey Presto!
Hope this helps.

This was the problem on my end, as well. Google Hangouts, if you've allowed it to take on your SMS work, will override the settings of the Android messaging app. If you turn off SMS in Google Hangouts, the notifications will immediately return. Easy fix.

Thanks a lot !!! Relieved ~~~

I had the same problem on vodaphone contract they said it was a problem with samsung itself.so I started faffing with the apps and came across hangouts which I believe is a txting app also so i uninstalled it and bingo I now get my notifications.Hope this works for you.

I havent that show notification in messages option
Can you be more specific?
Which Messaging app are you using?
Have you looked in the settings for whichever app you're using?

I have the samsung galaxy s3 mini, I've found this after a long search: go to settings >> storage >> applications >> messaging; there should be a box with 'show notifications' that needs to be checked.

Stupid Google Hangouts was causing my issues too! Crappy thing is a virus that should be removed. Thanks for posting the tips. BTW, I am a T-Mobile customer. It looks like this issue is carrier-agnostic.

Thank you Aron Tripp. Am somebody else's mom that was doing the same thing. Had no clue that the innocent looking icon on the right of the notifications area was actually a toggle switch. Spent 2 hours searching the internet to try and "fix" this problem. Can't thank you enough for sharing. O:-)

If everyone is not getting their texts and can't see them, a good simple fix is to delete all of you text threads. You may have too many text threads with certain people. This just happened to me on my Motorola M phone and after tech support without fixing it, my daughter discovered what was wrong. I could get text from new people but not my old friends. I deleted all of my text threads now all is well. Same thing also happened to my phone "recent" numbers too. Did the same thing with it, and now it is working fine too. My Candy Crush was also acting up. Fixed it the same way. Good luck everyone!

I'm so glad to have found this thread. I was having the exact same problem and I don't even have a samsung phone (I found this forum via a Google search of the problem). Mine's an AT&T prepaid touchscreen and it randomly started doing this in the last several days. Hangouts was the problem for me, too! I un-checked that SMS box and all is well again. :D

It was google Hangouts! at for me.. I turned off the sms and wouldn't ya know! Everything came back on for messaging! Thanks!!:cool::cool::cool:

Thanks you so much, beginning to think it would never be sorted - Yes, Hangout was the problem, found the app and discovered that the notification box wasn't ticked. All working as it should, thank God for Forums

I have a Motorola Droid Turbo through Verizon and its not receiving notifications. I use Handcent for SMS. The original SMS is not disabled, hangouts is disabled and I still can't get any tones. The only time I've been able to get tons is by using the original SMS application. I tried the Verizon messenger and didn't receive notifications either. Can anyone help? Thank you in advance.

My Telstra ZTE T83 "Dave" mobile phone is receiving multiple repeat text messages from all phones sending messages. I have checked the text messaging app settings which appear to be OK. What is causing this problem.

Thank you so much....whoever told you about google hangouts was absolutely right! i deleted it and my phone went back to normal. Love it! Thank you so much for your advice!!:D
