I see it as a better phone for me because of the 4.7" screen and the front facing speakers. Certainly not worth spending any money on if you already have the DNA in my opinion.

That's what it comes down to, it's personal preference. The ONE is an awesome phone, but so is the DNA. At first I was a little concerned about a five inch display making the phone too big, but after a hands on, this phone was the perfect size for me, and I have small hands. The other things I like about the DNA vs. the ONE is the wireless charging and the notification light on the back of the phone, neither possible on the ONE due to its aluminum uni body design. The DNA also does well in the battery department, the ONE is still unknown. Although the battery is a higher capacity than the DNA, you have to take into account Blinkfeed which is more or less a widget that will need to poll its sources to keep its information current, which means it will need to use at least one of the radios constantly. What effect will that have on the battery? Only time will tell.

Yeah believe me if I had the DNA I wouldn't even be thinking about the One. I have a GS3 and I can't take the screen anymore.....talk about personal preference...I can't take the poor color reproduction anymore. That's the main reason for my upgrade. I have no doubt the DNA is awesome.....any its on Verizon.

That's what kept me away from the S3, the colors are too over saturated.

Tough to buy a product from htc. Phone may look nice but every android phone I buy freezes up and I always go back to the iPhone because the iPhone is so reliable.

I travel a lot and like to load movies on my phone and it would be nice to have more space.

Laptop or tablet? Never really understood people watching full films on their phones. As big as screens are now days, they're still too small for me to watch a movie on...

If by reliable you mean slows to a crawl but doesn't actually freeze until you're trying to show a client some pictures I had the same experience with my iPhone 4 and 4s.

How about if you don't care for it, you just don't post it. Honestly I dont think anyone on these forums gives a crap if you get it or not.
I've never understood why people don't want top hear anything negative about a phone. I am shopping. (we all are. This phone isn't available, yet.) I'd like to hear both what people like and what they don't like.

No, I don't need to read 89 times about how so-and-so wants a removable sd card, but you can say that about good features, too. There will always be some redundancy in forums like this.

Wow ok so I seem to have struck a nerve with some.

If you haven't had a new phone in the last two years then I can certainly see someone jumping on board. I just don't see this being that ground breaking only a few months after the One X+ released. My rant about innovation is meant that everyone seems to be satisfied with current hardware configurations that stop at 64GB. I travel a lot and like to load movies on my phone and it would be nice to have more space.

I don't understand why a microSD slot is such a big deal to not add it. With the price of phones and contracts being what they are these days I just didn't see anything here that says "I have to own this phone and put the One X+ in a drawer"

There's several reasons for these decisions:

1. SD slots require a license, that's not free.
2. Google doesn't officially support SD cards anymore, app support for them is waning (see also: Spotify).
3. Onboard flash memory ensures a guaranteed level of performance. SD cards have wide-ranging classes of speed, which can result in slower performance in apps, or even trouble recording video/burst photos. Currently apps have been conservative in their I/O requirements so as not to run against those SD card limits, but there's a large benefit in having a guaranteed level of performance.
4. Flash memory (particularly speedy memory, not the cheap binned memory you find in low-end USB sticks) is still fairly expensive. Prices are dropping, but 128GB is still a major jump in cost from 64GB. In addition, the added demand for such chip sizes would reduce the available supply, driving prices up even higher.
5. It requires design concessions. It means another hole in the side/back of the device. Phone manufacturers would stop putting SIM slots in the phones if they could manage it.
6. MicroSD card slots might be small, but they're not microscopic. They take up space that could otherwise be used for things like increased battery size.

If you really need an SD card, there's plenty of phones that still offer the option, but I'm sure we're going to see a trend towards less SD cards in the future.

What makes you believe the ONE is better than the DNA? (other than the additional on board memory).

Kevin how is it better ?

Newer, faster chipset. Not known for sure, but it's almost certainly more battery friendly also. It also has a superior camera module, and Sense 5. The DNA most likely won't get the full Sense 5, but some type of hybrid between the two.

While industrial design is a personal preference, aluminum almost universally feels more premium than other materials.

Where the DNA felt like a heavily upgraded One X, the One is a completely new device from HTC.

Not to mention the stereo speakers. Speakers on the front are just better, even if they sound exactly the same.

BlinkFeed shouldn't be used as a negative, since you don't have to use it if you don't want to.

The one thing I'm not a fan of is the button layout but I'm sure I could get used to it (just like anything else).

I'm actually curious if the HTC logo is touch sensitive, and just isn't being used. I will be watching the modding community closely on that. Would be a big breakthrough to allow it to be used as a menu/recent apps button.

There is no innovation happening, maybe on the camera front but only slightly. Samsung is the only one doing anything close to innovating and even that is marginal. Mfg's still haven't learned that to beat Apple you have to innovate and give people things that don't exist on any other device today and this is why Apple can still dominate the market with only minor tweaks to their devices every year because no one is competing...

ASUS

It is just a logo.

How have you confirmed this without hacking the capacitive screen driver? Most devices extend the capacitive panel below the screen to the buttons. It would probably be less cost effective to literally make the HTC logo non-sensitive. Note that just because it has no functionality (you press it and it doesn't do anything) does not mean that the panel itself is not detecting the finger.

This.

Asus is the one that really tries to create something new, like the padfone (I'm getting mixed with fonepad, so I'm talking about the phone and tablet hybrid)

Samsung tries to create some features software vise, but other than that there is not much innovation going on there. They just put together everything that is proven to work and is guaranteed to sell. Like after the HTC One X launch, it seemed as if the S3 software "innovations" were made on the last minute just to look cool and innovative..

The ONE gives up wireless charging which both Samsung and Apple are bringing to their handsets and the .2 difference in processor speed will be barely noticeable if at all. Sense 5 isn't anything special and something I personally am not interested in (it's basically a live widget that will constantly drawing from the battery). As far as the camera, it's still unproven.

So someone is hard to please....

You have no idea if Apple will bring wireless charging or not. And honestly, who cares? Do you use it on your DNA? IMO it's a hardware gimmick just like NFC. Sure it's cool, but functionally it's not superior to just plugging in (charges a little slower, too right?). It's not the speed difference in the processor, it's the refinement in the architecture, along with the newer, upgraded GPU that's the big deal. By your logic I should be just fine with a Snapdragon S3 from the likes of the HTC Vivid. I mean, heck, the clockspeed is almost identical.

Sense 5 is far more than blinkfeed, I guess you haven't watched any of the videos. Allow me to help you with that. Yes, the camera is still unproven (technically), but HTC is to the point where you can expect camera performance to be stellar.

Conveniently didn't touch on the speakers at all. Do you never watch Youtube or do any type of media on your device that has sound? I'm really curious about that, since the front facing stereo speakers are a big deal if you do.

And before you think I'm just bashing wireless charging or the DNA I'm not. I've used wireless charging, and plugging and unplugging a charger takes maybe 5 seconds. I've also seen the DNA in person many times, and spent some time playing around with one. It's a great piece of hardware, and if I had one I'm not sure I'd be looking at the One. The One is superior in a few ways, which I outlined above, but that doesn't mean DNA owner's should be upset. If someone doesn't have a DNA and are trying to decide between the DNA and One, then the One is the winner. Hands down. It's better in the things that matter, and the things it doesn't have compared to the DNA are inconsequential.
