But in order to be the best you have to beat the best. We'll find out thursday if the One is the best.
Nope. We'll find out when they're both released which is best. Unless you're one of those guys that goes off of specs only. That's what we talk about now because we have nothing else to do, but the proof is in the pudding. And I need to taste the pudding myself.

Obviously we wont know for sure until they're released. Good job though trying so hard to find weakness in my logic that you ended up going with over analysis of my wording. So many people get SO defensive that they cannot simply agree with ANYTHING that someone else says. So they have to try to trip one another up and trap them in their wording or whatever way they can. There are quite a few threads on the HTC One already and it isn't released. But if the S4 is mentioned as potentially being better, suddenly we have to mention the importance of waiting til it's released. In all fairness, the HTC One COULD be a hot piece of garbage. We don't know yet (just like you said). But so many are already crowning it as the best phone of 2013. I guess it's okay to do that with HTC phones in the HTC threads but you mention any other device and there's just no way of knowing until it's released. Even though most on this thread wont ever touch the S4 before they say it sucks and is cheaply manufactured. Tasting the pudding is great. As long as you actually do taste the pudding. Some pretend they have, and then they have strong opinions based on the 30 seconds they held the device at the store. And that goes for fans of ANY manufacturer.

the only turn off for me is it ships with 4.1.2. the s4 will ship with 4.2.2. htc takes forever to give updates.

Most phone companies use plastic. So does Glock, Springfield, Ruger, and many other gun manufacturers. I figure if a GUN is okay to be made out of plastic, so is a phone. Sure, it's fun to be able to tell your friends you have an aluminum phone and feel like the king of the world. But I am perfectly okay with durable, light plastic that doesn't get dinged up or warped easily. I'm not saying anything negative about the One. It looks awesome and I think it will be a huge success for HTC (for once). But I just say we should wait and compare it to the S4. That will be the true test. Any top end phone released right now SHOULD be better than the S3. That's not the benchmark here. Like Kevin said, the DNA or Nexus 4 or other newer devices should be the standard. If it makes you feel better to compare it to a year old phone so that it looks better, that's your choice. But in order to be the best you have to beat the best. We'll find out thursday if the One is the best.

Get it through your head. The quality of the plastic on Samsung devices is horrible. They scratch and crack and dent. No ifs ands or buts.

Get your opinion through my head? Umm.......no. I have the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 10.1 and the plastic is obviously a cheaper feel than cast iron, but it's durable and perfectly functional. I have no dents, scratches or cracks in my devices. I guarantee you I could scratch and dent any phone on the market if I wanted to. It's a matter of taking care of your possessions and not being careless. Until phone companies start using thick titanium to build the entire phone, no one can act like one material is always more durable than another. Metals warp, dent, crack, scratch just like any plastic.

Honestly, if I were HTC, I'd skip 4.2 and wait for 4.3/5.0, which Google will likely announce+release at Google I/O in the coming months. If Google wasn't lying, HTC should have access to prerelease code for that already.

Two words: Valium & tequila. Pick one and take some. I didn't over-analyze anything. I pointed out that what you said was wrong and a little short-sighted. It's seems as though the announcement of the GS4 is all you need to make up your mind. There was no analysis needed whatsoever. I've pointed it out before and others have as well: it's not great OR terrible based on specs, a few pics and some initial hands-on reports (what The Verge likes to call a "review"). It is funny though - you blasted MY post about your post being incorrect. Your justification? That you were wrong, my post was correct, and how dare I point that out to you.

The plastic is absolute crap. The silver trim on my S3 and Note 2 scratch up within a week. Then the back on the S3 cracks.
Keep being a delusional fanboy. Ignorance.

My post was simply stating that on thursday, the S4 will be announced and that looks to be one of the main competitors to the HTC One. Seeing as all of you love to compare the One (that hasn't been released), I would assume you'd also like to compare it to the S4 (which hasn't been released). But once I mention that, you hound on the fact that it hasn't been released. So it's okay to praise the One (which hasn't been released) but how dare anyone mention that the S4 might be good, because it hasn't been released. That is called a double standard. It doesn't make your post or mine incorrect. It does however, make a ton of people hypocritical just based on their preference. Which is why I said that applies to all manufacturers. Not just HTC or Samsung.

I doubt you have an S3 and a Note 2. If you do, or did and they scratched up within a week you need to take better care of your things. It has nothing to do with being a fanboy. As soon as that term starts getting thrown around, I know that you are not interested in an actual discussion/debate about anything logical. You treat your property poorly and do not take care of things, and I take care of my devices. So now i'm a "fanboy" and "delusional". I fail to see the connection. I never said the S3 or Note 2 was a great build quality, only that they were just fine. Which for someone who knows how to take good care of their property, they ARE just fine. I also did say that I could scratch, dent, crack, or warp any device on the market. Again, I don't see how that makes me a "fanboy" when I include EVERY device on the market. People seriously need to come up with a different term that is more accurate instead of just resorting to the one heard most often.

Ignorance means someone is lacking sufficient knowledge on a particular topic. There are 6 Galaxy S3's in my family (immediate and in-laws) and one Note 2. I personally have owned a Verizon and T-Mobile S3. Not a single one has a cracked back or damage to the silver trim. I'm not saying it can't happen, again......I could damage any phone out there. But I am saying that in general everyday usage when you take care of what you own, it's easily avoidable. That is not ignorance.

Yeah, you kind of miss the point. It's just a little silly to trash my post when the rationale that you use is basically an expanded version of my post. I didn't hound on anything. And if you think the GS4 is great before it's announced, fine. If you think it's Christ-in-a-phone after they announce it, that's fine too. You'll be just as wrong as the folks here who think that the One is their passport to Valhalla. I think you're letting the anti-plastic diatribes by chris2k5 get you riled up.

Me personally, I lean toward HTC because my experience w/ Samsung has been lacking, to say the least. I will say that my wife really likes her GS3, which is a first for Samsung in my house, so that's a good sign. I've never really had a major issue with an HTC device and I've owned many over the years. So the fact that Samsung got it right in 2012 is great, but I'm going to need more than just the last cycle to convince me that it's a trend.

Wireless charging is less convenient because you can't use your device while its charging. Say your phone is at 5% and you need to do something, but need to get it plugged in. Wireless charging is absolutely useless in that scenario. It's one that I've encountered several times, and it is truly less convenient than charging the old fashioned way.
Not when wireless charging is done right. I still miss the wireless charging on my pre. I placed my phone on a handsome dock, and a magnet held it in place. It charged and was held at a handy angle to use. I am actually using the pre dock right now, as I type this (the kickstand on my mo-pho mates well with it) and I use another pre dock at home, when I use the phone as a night stand. But now, instead of just dropping the phone on the dock, I ALSO have to plug it in, using a fussy little usb cord.

Sigh. I miss the pre.
I like it when people who think of themselves as at the top of innovation suddenly become luddites when it comes to the cloud. You don't have to store every thing on your phone anymore.

Anyway, I really wish it had wireless charging but I guess that's not so easy with an aluminum phone.
i am often in places without good coverage. The cloud is sometimes handy, but in general, a usb cord is a faster way to transfer data. pretty much the only place where I have wifi good enough to actually use it is my home, and my computer ie right there.

32gb is probably enough for me, though. And 64gb certainly is.

I'm not getting riled up. I do enjoy a discussion about plastic though because when someone bashes it, it's with a keyboard that's made of plastic. Or it's on a device that utilizes plastic SOMEWHERE. So I do think it's funny when people bash plastic when they use it constantly every single day of their lives.

I do appreciate your response though. It's reasonable, logical, and clearly states your point. Thank you for that. Conversations can remain fun and insightful as long as we all can maintain those aspects in our responses. But please don't misunderstand my response to you in regards to not putting too much stock in an unreleased phone. I wasn't trashing you or your post. I was more trashing the other people on this thread who are already getting HTC's logo tattooed on their faces and the phone isn't even released yet. And I did laugh because no one recommended the wisdom of waiting for a phone to be released, until I started saying the S4 could potentially be a better device. But again, I didn't intend that to be trashing you or your post. I was just using your post to point out the hypocrisy I was seeing in many other posts.

I do want to say also, Samsung has just as much of a positive track record as any other manufacturer in the Android realm. HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Sony, etc....have all released some hot pieces of crap. The Thunderbolt, the Bionic (which I actually enjoyed owning it, but I know it had a ton of problems for a huge number of people). I don't think that any phone company really was showing us their true abilities until 2012 when they were working with ICS and JB on the devices. HTC stepped it up big time with the One X+, LG came up big with the Nexus 4, Samsung with the S3, and Motorola with a handful of other devices like the Maxx HD and what not. My BIGGEST gripe with the Android community, is how people instantly call one another "Fanboys" as soon as they disagree. But the funny thing is, 9 times out of 10 when I see someone getting called a fanboy of a device, it's by someone who is a fanboy of another device. And once that "insult" gets tossed around, constructive conversations are dead. If you are calling someone else a fanboy, it's probably because you are a fanboy yourself and so whatever they are saying is upsetting you more than it really should. I am a fanboy of Samsung and Motorola. I am a fanboy of Android and Google in general. I like HTC a lot, and I have been impressed by LG recently. I wish Sony would bring some of their high end stuff to the US so we could try it out. Personally, I like Touchwiz a lot so I purchased the S3 and the Note 10.1. But before that I owned the Razr Maxx and the Bionic and was a huge fan of Blur and Motorola.

Lots of info you don't need or care about, but maybe in time we can end this ridiculous, childish "fanboy" accusation that everyone is so obsessed with.

LegalAmerican, if there was an award like "Post of the year" you just won it.

I find it so freaking hilarious how people are getting so heated over two UNRELEASED phones, one of which HASN'T FULLY BEEN REVEALED YET.

I'm 16, yet I swear I find myself more mature than most of you people.

I get the plastic argument though. I pay a premium price for a premium phone. I don't want it to feel like the Arrowhead water bottle in my fridge. I think last year was the first time they really started to get the plastic right. Obviously the best example is the One X, but the GS3 is a good example as well. But truth be told, that was the first time I think Samsung got it right. I'm on Sprint, so the phones are different, but the first two Galaxy phones were not made out of good plastic. They just weren't. I do like the look and the feel of the GS3. I imagine the 4 will be much of the same. My wife loves her GS3 and if she's happy, I'm happy. But she hated the Epic and the GS2. Not to say HTC hasn't had some plastic fiascos, because they have. Apparently the T-bolt kickstand was a flaming piece of junk. And even on my beloved OG EVO, the back always felt like it was going to break in pieces, though it never did. But with HTC I always feel better knowing that the frame is metal and it can take a beating. And in the industry I work in, it certainly gets it. It's obviously a personal preference. So if people take a dump on your personal preference you'd be irritated. I would be. But when you see people who have decided that their preference should be the model for all, you know you're dealing with dummies.

And we're never going to end the fanboy stuff. What else are we going to do from August through March every year while we wait for the new cycle of devices?

I love this... it will be in my sig now.
