Not liking the Nexus 5X because of lag

My 5X has been one of the most responsive devices I have had. The next one is my AOSP M8.

Edit: to be fair, I don't have any social media apps on my device.

I own both the 6P and the 5X, and both experience lag with certain applications. For me, Facebook and Amazon are the worst. I'm not sure it's possible to eliminate 100 percent of the lag on Android phones.

Really? I've experienced no lag with my 6P on Facebook although I've yet to use it with snap chat. This has been the smoothest Android phone I've ever used. Haven't tried the 5x though.

Yeah, I've experienced a little lag on the 6P. But I agree that it's the smoothest Android phone overall.

Yeah I get a lag quite often actually, pretty much on a daily basis. I use Facebook and Instagram, but no other social media. It even lags during use of Hangouts.

One of the biggest lags I see is during camera use and during phone calls. When I'm on the phone and I take the phone away from my ear it stays dark and I can't even hang up. I have to wait for the other person to hang up because it doesn't even respond. It just stays dark and I can push the power button or fingerprint and nothing happens.

I also find that when it downloads anything off of Google Play, good luck trying to do anything else or multitask during that download. It needs to finish the download and then you can do things. There are other times when I experience lag, but those are the most noticeable.

It seems like there are two kind of 5x out there. Ones like Bob has and ones like I have. I haven't seen lag in hangouts or issues with the screen coming on after calls. And I just downloaded and installed a large app as a test and seamlessly flipped through and clicked around in Newsstand during the download and installation.

Do you have a screen protector that covers the proximity sensor just below the speaker? If so, pull it off and see if that helps.

I'm sure Google has received feedback on these issues. Though I haven't looked on the support forums. Better question is Google tracking this and testing the handset for problems?

Coming to this party late but have had the 5x from the get go.
Very serious lag for me and I thought BB 9780 lagged.
Not a gamer.
No FB.
DO have social media LINE, TENDER, WECHAT. With the last two signed out if not using same. Tad disappointed in the 5x

Nexus 5X - Serious lag. Any suggestions to improve it overall?

Have had the 5x since it was released. Not a gamer. No FB app. Do have LINE, TENDER, WECHAT apps with the latter two signed out when not using same.
Other wise emailing, internet searches. Do have the AOL app.
If I use "Clean Master" there is some relief until it slows down again.
Have cleared the cache.

Any suggestions as to curing it's ills? All welcome except for the caustic sounding ones. 🙄

re:

Hi, I would uninstall clean master first. Also any other Ram boosting, task killing, battery saving apps. They will slow your phone down despite what they claim. Also, if you have encryption enabled, you might try disabling it. Lastly, since its a nexus, make sure you have the latest update.

I don't have lag here either, and I use Snapchat and Facebook. In fact my phone is rather smooth, and even HDR doesn't have much lag. In fact it just does it's job of filtering/stabilizing/whatever HDR setting does.

re:

Thank you for the suggestions. I will do as you suggested and run with it for awhile. I don't have encryption on. And the latest update is on the phone.

Try wiping the system cache in stock recovery, I've read that it's pretty much fixed most people's lag issues and helped speed up my phone altho any lag I noticed was negligible.

I'm hoping Google can address the lag issue in future updates.

It is an issue.

It doesn't mean it's an issue for all or even most 5x users, but the fact that there are many users complaining about it (not just one or two outliers) means it's an issue.

Saying "Don't use certain apps" or "Wipe the system cache" is a workaround, not a solution.

I've experienced lag on the Nexus 5x, and I believe it can be addressed with a software update. My old Moto X 2013 running Lollipop had zero lag. The Nexus 5x (without screen protector, without restoring apps, about several hours after wiping the system cache) has lag. It isn't dealbreaker lag. It isn't horrible lag. But it's lag, more lag than should be on a newly released device. Most of the lag for me has been in switching or first-time launching applications. Within apps, not so much lag.

I'm still trucking on, though. Love this phone for its fingerprint sensor and it's amazing camera. Hoping the lag will go away in a couple more updates.

In my opinion, the "don't use certain apps" comments are more about selecting which apps are ready or optimized for Marshmallow.

The latest Google stats (Dec 2015) show a ridiculously small percentage of phones running Marshmallow, so how many devs have really upped their game to make their apps fully compatible with an OS version that is running on less than 1% of all Android phones?

I think we'll see a lot fewer problems as the distribution figures shift forward towards more Marshmallow adoption and more devs "catch up."

I totally get what you're saying, but I use my phone for the phone's functioning. I'm not going to uninstall useful apps in the hopes that I can track down what's causing the lag. The lag isn't horrible, just existent.

That said, since the lag (at least on my phone) appears more prominently switching apps instead of within apps, I highly doubt it has anything to do with Marshmallow optimization.

How did your turn off encryption? It's on by default on my phone and won't give me the option to change that from what I can tell without rooting. I don't think I want or need to do that yet with this phone.
