Not liking the Nexus 5X because of lag

I'm not happy with my 5X any more. It's lagging a lot, even after rebooting. I do not have facebook or any other 3rd party messenger app installed. My battery life is also atrocious - I'm getting roughly 1 hour of screen on time with Android OS gobbling up most of the battery. This is with location set to battery saving mode, screen brightness on automatic, and wifi set to sleep. When I first got the device, i was getting 3 hours of screen time, but since the 6.0.1 update, the phone is laggy and awful. Oh, and it drops cellular data connection randomly (with a new SIM) and often shows no sim card - if I put it on airplane mode and turn that off right away, the sim is found and data is back. I wish I could return it.

I've found screen brightness to be too bright with the automatic settings. I disabled that function.

I'm guessing that with the 6.0.1 update, one or more of your apps is no longer working as it should and the cause of your battery drain.

Test in safe mode and see if you still see lag. If lag goes away in safe mode, start scrutinizing your apps for a culprit or culprits.

Strongish. Not full, but I'd say 60%. Not sure how to get it to show numbers, but it's usually 60-75ish %.

i am experiencing it a lot and that why using a Android cleaner app for this. It help me to keep the ram clean and makes thed vice run smooth. BTW its the only ad free app i got on play store

You don't need a RAM Cleaner or any anti virus etc. Modern Android devices don't. In fact they make devices slower. It isn't Windows.

Ditto. Haven't really needed RAM Cleaners or task managers since like OS 4.X or so....

My 5x experienced a lot of lag and was the main reason I got rid of it and ended up going with the 6p regrettably. Kind of bummed me a little bit as I did prefer the 5x for the size opposed to the 6p which doesn't feel too massive to me but is larger than I'd like. They really borked something there though because I have to restart my phone a lot at least twice a day at times to get it to behave normally.

try to reflash the android 6.0.1 image, when my nexus 5 went bad, i did this and it fixed for me this kind of issues, im even thinking to do the same to my new N5X to see if it fix the lag issue.

Did you try a factory data reset via Recovery after FIRST disabling the auto restore function?

Are you using a custom launcher? On my S6, I would get terrible lag mostly in Google apps due to Nova Launchers accessibility service. When I went into system settings>accessibility and disabled it, the lag went away especially in apps such as Google+ and Chrome. I enabled the service again and the lag returned. Choppy, glitchy(sp), slow scrolling. I have left it off for now. The only issue is having that service disabled, Nova is unable to bring down the Notification banner using a swipe gesture. I can live with that. I hate lag.

Re:

Also on top of that every time I get off a phone call the screen never turns on. I have to push the power button 3 or 4 times before it even responds. I don't know if anyone else experiences that, but it's always been that way since I got the phone. Essentially I take the phone away from my ear to look at it and press the disconnect button except the phone never turns on to light up the screen. I've never had this before ever. And it's been like that with all the firmware updates so far. Anyone else experience that?

This! Also the transition lags and some in-app lags (chrome browser).

Perhaps there is a bad batch of phones in the wild?

I'm guessing that you have a screen protector that covers proximity sensor. This is a well known issue. Most screen cover makers have adjusted their designs to have cutouts for the sensors

Yes correct bingo! I already got a new one and it's working now. Thx

Looks like there is inconsistent builds being sent out and quality control has not been what it should for this particular device. Hopefully they are able to resolve the issue with software updates or maybe even recalls. What do you think?

I Finally got tired of this lag last Friday, i backed up my files and reflashed the image of android 6.0.1 and its running fine now, have used the camera some times and it’s not lagging now, ill post back if it start to lag again after using the camera.

Laggy phone

Okay so, when they announced the phone i was hyped for it, being it a google phone made by LG was so awesome. You would expect it to be good, no lag, strong build quality etc etc.

However, after using it for a month, maybe less, the phone is slow, already has a crack in its screen (just because it fell of the table?!).

I'm not sure what to do, either its me, but i guess not since i got standard apps,
and i don't use it much.

Is there a way of fixing this tho?

Re: Laggy phone

Warranty doesn't cover physical damage caused by dropping the device.

Re: Laggy phone

Did you have a case? Without a case, a phone falling off a table on to a hard surface causing a cracked screen sounds right to me. With a case (a real one, not one of those slim cases that barely cover the back), then that may be a bit surprising.

As for the lag, I feel your pain. I came from the original Nexus 5 which could be left on for months at a time without any lag, but I find that if I don't reboot my 5x once a week, I get a lot of lag. It's not a big deal for me because rebooting once a week is not a hardship, but it was surprising at first. And I don't think it's Marshmallow, because my wife now has my original nexus 5 with Marshmallow, and she does not need to reboot.

So, is your phone laggy even an hour after a reboot, or after a few weeks of continual uptime? If the former, then it's not just you. If the latter...maybe just you?

I have not really had any lag on mine (but I also have not used a 6p...so maybe it's a perception issue).

I will say this - people seeing issues on this device (and the 6p) is not surprising to me. Issues are pretty much a given when using the first major release of any software. This is something that people don't mention enough when it comes to Nexus devices. If you buy a Nexus out of the gate, you ARE Google's testing ground for the first few updates of a release. You are also acting as a beta tester for 3rd party developers who have not optimized their apps for 6.0 yet (see: facebook, snapchat, etc). I am confident this will get worked out as I have been through it before. But this is part of the tradeoff for being on the bleeding edge of software.
