Not receiving texts. No sound when pulling up assistant

Got my pixel yesterday. Last night I was receiving texts through Google messenger but wasn't getting any sound notification.

Now tonight I noticed I am not receiving texts at all (was trying to test sound by texting myself on someone else's phone).

Also there is no sound when I pull up assistant by OK GOOGLE.

Bought thru Google Store. On Verizon Network.

Any ideas what might be going on???

Is it safe to assume you have not accidentally enabled "Do Not Disturb" mode?

Also, are you coming to the Pixel from an iPhone? When you used your friend's phone, is that an iPhone? (it's a long story which I will only go into if either is true)

Do not disturb mode not on.

Yes, I was sending texts from iPhone.
I seem to be receiving hangouts fine.

When I set up pixel I used usb-c from note7... RIP Note.
