Not recieving alerts for texts & Texts backing out when new alert comes

I just got my Bell S3, switching from an iPhone 4 because it was gobbling up my data at an alarming rate and while I love my new phone there are a few things that are starting to annoy me. Number one is, when I recieve a text only about 50% of the time do I receive an alert, be that either in the form of a vibration (which it's set to do) or a little 1 by the edge of the envelope. Second, when I get a new text and I start to reply to that text, if I get another one the phone backs me out and I lose what I was replying to the first text with.

Is there any way to manipulate the settings to correct this?

lost text should be in draft folder. have you noticed a period of time the sounds/alerts do not work? check blocking in setting

There's nothing in my drafts and blocking is disabled.
