Not registered on Network?

I periodically get this message in places with a signal. I have to go to toggle Airplane mode for it to pick up the network. I have changed my sim (I'm on Vodafone UK). Anyone else come across this? Any thoughts?

on o2 my signal used to drop and i had to toggle flight mode to fix it but ive never had that mesage.
whats the online signal map like for your area mate?
