Not so "seamless" update today (but close)

I got it yesterday on mine. Did you try manually checking? It showed up for me after I checked, said no update was available but then immediately after exiting out of that screen the notification popped up.

Just tried that, watched as it updated the 'last checked' time to the current time while continuing to stay up-to-date, and then had the same result - on exiting, update available.

It is normal. When Google rolls these out they do it in batches. Usually within the week of release everyone has it :).

Just to add to this, I was told by support that the "roll out" of the batches can be up to 2 weeks from Google Store bought phones. Just FWIW. I have a vzw and still waiting for my update as well.

I got mine, and I get the seamless part. While it downloaded AND installed, I was able to use my phone normally. When I had a minute, I was able to reboot to an updated phone. This is a huge improvement.

If you are the type that sits over it and watches because you need to have your update that minute (we all are here to a degree I'm sure), then it will seem less this way.

In my case, I had to run to some meetings. I was able to use the phone while the update installed, when I got back to my desk, reboot and **bam** I have the update. No more collapsed robot!!!

Hour and a half? It took me about 20-30 minutes total and I spaced out on rebooting. Is this the normal update time people are experiencing?

So my unlocked Pixel XL received the November 5 security update this morning and I would call the process "semi-seamless". There was a notification that an update was ready to download, I had to click that, watch the 60MB file download (quick), then it started the install, which took an hour and a half! I seriously thought the phone was frozen at 15% for a long time. Once it finished I clicked "reboot" and it was done.

Now the good part was I could use the phone while the update was happening (new, and awesome). I was getting notifications, I answered an email, etc. There was no notification the install was happening in the background but I could switch back to it via the task switcher.

That sure beats having the phone unusable while "android is updating" my 150+ apps, but it wasn't the "seamless" process I'd heard explained for Android 7: that the download would happen automatically, that it would update in the background and when it was ready the only thing I would see is a notification that it was time to reboot my phone.

Is there a setting I need to change to get the download to happen automatically? Or is this how "seamless" upgrades are actually going to work?

Mine took a total of about 5 mins from start to finish but my phone was at 90% battery.

IMO it shouldn't prompt you to reboot unless there is a security concern that would make doing so necessary. It'd be better IMO for it to download in the background and then just switch partitions whenever you next naturally reboot.
