Not sure if I broke my digitizer

So I had a cracked screen on my s3 but the digitizer still worked. Bought one of the glass replacements and started plugging away with the picks and a hair dryer. Got about halfway done with the screen when my stupid cat decided to grab the towel I was working on and knock the phone to the ground. A few pieces removed later I noticed a crack in the center of the led/digitizer. It doesn't extend to the edges at all just one little crescent shaped crack in the middle. I tried turning the phone on with half the glass gone to check the digitizer and got no finger reading on the digitizer itself or the pieces of glass left on the phone.

My question is do I have to have the glass fully in place to even know if the digitizer is boned or is any crack a guaranteed broken digitizer?

Hello,

If your noticing some cracks or anything to the digitizer I would do yourself the favor and replace it now while you have it cracked open. No scene putting it all back together and then having to go thru the whole process of heating up and removing the glass display again. I know its costly but in the long run it might be a better option.

Any other opinions on this? If I'm replacing the digitizer I'm just going to go ahead and get one of the full frame things so I don't have to screw with snaking all those ribbon cables back through and well as the glue again. Also if I choose the replacing digitizer route, I have a Cricket SIII. Would a I9300 digitizer+frame work. From the picture on ebay it seems to be an exact match sans one little change in the plastic on the back at the bottom (doesn't look like it would affect the mounting of the MB and other peripherals that I have to get off my phone).

Edit: Actually I found another difference in where the processor sits into the frame. Mine is further right (looking at the back) more towards the middle. Looks like the L710 is a perfect match though.

It's very difficult to successfully replace just the glass under the best of circumstances. I think a crack means it's toast.

All the US versions share the same hardware, but the i9300 has different internals. So I would expect any US screen to fit.
