It would be wrong for Samsung not to upgrade the 10.1's to Android 4.3.

All I really want is the TRIM functionality and I don't want to root my tablet.

The note 10.1 is now one year old. This is the time when SS memory without TRIM
starts to slow a machine down. This is a major functionality issue.

If Samsung chooses to supply important upgrades for only one year, my next tablet will be an Ipad or a Nexus.

Pretty please Samsung.

Well, I guess you could always reformat if needed, to breath new life into a sluggish tab that doesn't yet have or isn't going to get 4.3 with TRIM. But you may have a valid point here regarding Samsung's propensity to abandon OS updates after a year or so since this little known feature of 4.3 could actually extend the useful performance life of a device without having to resort to arcane (e.g. rooting) or drastic (e.g., factory resetting/reformatting) measures.

But politely asking Samsung to incorporate a feature that would delay the need for you to purchase a new tab probably runs counter to their business model, eh? :)

Experts (Leo Laporte) say that your Nexus 7 will become more & more sluggish without TRIM.
After a year, he got inferior performance on his.
Depending on use, it may take a year to notice.
Just as with eyesight, if it degrades slowly, it might be missed.

I don't want this to happen on my Note.
Jelly Bean 4.1 to 4.3 for the Note 10.1 can't be a major development effort.

They could even drop out everything but TRIM.

I personally prefer root and custom ROM's I do not rely on the OEM's to truly support the devices the way I want. The Cyanogen Mod team has 4.2.2 done and is working on 4.3 it will be out soon and for me that will be the right course of action. Plus there are others like PacMan ROM that have 4.2.2 and will likely do 4.3.
