Note 2 storage confusion

I got the Note 2 last week at Best Buy. While there, the salesman took the 16G sd card from my Dinc 2 and stuck it the Note 2. I thought nothing of it at that moment. But now I want to put the SD card back into the Dinc 2 and put a 64G in the Note 2.

So question is this: has the Note 2 been storing files on the SD card as well?

The OS will ask you where to put files that can be stored on both. If you haven't allowed it, there should be no files there. Just to be safe, open up the files on the sd card and look. There you will find the answer.

It is possible that apps that are SD card aware may have used your SD, but in most cases that I can think of, they will default to internal storage and ask if you want to save to the SD instead. The camera app is a good example of that.

Best way to know is open up a file explorer and see what's in your SD Card :) The phone WILL write a few system files on the card without asking, but these files are not critical and will rebuild if missing (so if you delete them, they will appear again when you re-insert the SD card into your phone). Like the rest said, most apps will ask you if you want to save data to SD card, but this data will ALWAYS be save data or photos or extra downloads, never system files or required files for an app (this holds true for Android 4+ and if you're not rooted).
