Note 2: What is the best screen protector?

Re: What is the best screen protector?

I used to be a zagg zealot, but I now use a product called just like glass. love their protectors.

Re: What is the best screen protector?

I have used ZAGG, i have used Clear Protectors and the stock verizon protectors. I recently started using the tempered glass screen protector on my Note 3. It is by far the best screen protector I have used. It is completely invisible, as it is glass, it significantly reduces smudging and finger prints, works flawlessly with the S-pen, and isn't textured like Zagg. On top of that, they are extremely cheap, around $8 bucks.

Re: What is the best screen protector?

I just bought one from Zeos for my Galaxy S4. It's called Zeos Glassy Premium screen protector. Only one I've seen, that's made of Corning Gorilla glass. I must say...it's simply outstanding. Got the .33mm version....though they also have a .20 one. Very nice and the touch sensitivity and clarity is amazing. Absolutely no bubbles and hardly noticeable due to it's beveled edge. Could not be happier with my purchase. This is by far the best I've seen and/or used to date. I bought if off Amazon, but you can buy it from their website at zeosdirect.com. Just my 2 cents. Cheers.

Re: What is the best screen protector?

Again, that might be your 2 cents, or 3500 cents as it were. However I don't see the logic in spending $35 to cover your phone's screen (already gorilla glass) with more gorilla glass. Especially when the tempered glass protectors for $8 on ebay have an 9h hardness rating. Just MY 2 cents.

Re: What is the best screen protector?

Re: What is the best screen protector?

I use iSmooth protectors. Reasonably priced, fits good, and the only one I've every successfully installed myself without a myriad of dusk bubbles.

Re: What is the best screen protector?

they're definitely not the best but its what i use too. i went through 4 of them already. i always get nicks and scratches on mine because i'll sometimes put my keys and phone in the same front jeans pocket.

i tried to change the screen protector myself once and failed horribly on it. i take my screen protectors to Verizon and have them do it. my excuse to them being "you guys do this all the time so you're good at it"

i even bought the 3 pack of Verizon screen protectors for my Note 10.1 tablet and had them put it on.

Re: What is the best screen protector?

I actually find Skinomi to be a really great alternative to ZAGG at half the price. The issue I have with tempered glass screen shields on the Note line of devices is that I find it causes the S-Pen to lose some responsiveness to the screen. Just my experience though, yours may vary.

My s-pen works great with my tempered glass screen protector. No lag or interference at all. Also makes me feel better knowing the screen protector will crack if I drop my phone not my actual screen

It's a milo, got it off eBay for $12. It's an off brand but works great. I've had it on since September, no scratches and very little finger prints to clean off. Was very easy to install. And I use my s- pen a lot.

Re: What is the best screen protector?

I worked in a large glass manufacturing plant for a decade. We had 3 different glass tempering furnaces. When I first started there, my company had the largest tempering furnace West of the Mississippi. That furnace could barely temper 1/8", and the results were not optically ideal. A panel would have many waves and distortions.

I have a very hard time believing that the "tempered glass" protectors are really tempered. I completely understand the method of glass tempering, both in theory and practice.

The thicker a glass panel is, the easier it is to temper. Thin glass gets quite difficult, when you get under 1/8". The thinnest we could ever temper was 3/32". I did see one piece of 1/16" get tempered by accident. It was wavy like a potato chip, and we were all amazed that it made it through the furnace without exploding.

Cliff notes on glass tempering: bake the glass until it's at the desired temperature, then blow compressed air on the panel to cool the outside faster than the inside. You have to get the exterior of the panel 500 degrees cooler than the interior, in order to produce a decent temper. 1/2" thick glass takes very little air to achieve this, and those panels would come out of the oven at about 200 degrees and take hours to reach room temp.
1/8" needed so much air blown on it, that the entire plant had to wear ear protection because of the extreme noise from such high air pressure being released while we tempered it, and it came out of the oven at room temperature. It reaches 2000 degrees before air is blown on it for tempering. The air pressure often shattered the thin panels inside the oven.
We had to install a 5,000 gallon air tank just so we could temper 1/8".
The furnace has hundreds of air nozzles spaced out in a grid over the panels.

In short, I call B.S. on tempering glass under 1/32".

Re: What is the best screen protector?

From my understanding they are chemically tempered not heat tempered.
*** I could very well be incorrect some appear to actually claim a high temperature process ***

Re: What is the best screen protector?

Erik, sure. Totally understand. Though hope you know that sellers on ebay say anything and make all kinds of claims. Yes, I too buy from ebay sometimes, but as this was glass we're dealing with, did not want to find out that something I bought cheap was not shatter proof, and had pieces of glass all over with my little kids around. End of the day, we get what we paid for, I guess. Personally, I'll go for ones like Zeos or SPG as I heard good things about both of them. But if you're happy with the one you got, I guess it works for you, and I respect that.

The second thing about putting Gorilla glass on Gorilla glass....well it adds a second layer of protection. Fixing an iPhone screen at an Apple store costs $150 or so. This $30 screen protector will save me that cost, as it's harder to crack than the original, due to the double layer. Cheers.

Re: What is the best screen protector?

I just dropped my note 2 on the asphalt, case came off battery door came off, battery flew out. It's fine I have a milo tempered glass screen protector on it. Phone landed face down no scratches or cracks. Paid about $12 for it on eBay.
