I asked the guy in Best Buy's Samsung Experience Store about that, too. My Sprint Note 3 has the white sms screen and phone dialer; I wanted the black and blue versions like the Galaxy S3. He told me that those display models are the international versions. I told him that they should display the actual versions that customers on respective carriers will buy. He responded that carriers have to pay to have their actual unit displayed and most opted not to pay. However, he said the version displayed for Verizon is the version that Verizon customers will get. All of the other carriers opted to settle for displaying the standard (international) version.

I just purchased the at&t version yesterday. So far I am liking it however, one of the selling points for me was the black sms app I played with at my local best buy! To be clear I am not referring to the black background you can set once you are in the native sms messaging app, I am referring to the black view with white fonts on the main sms screen that lists out all of your messages. Anyone else's model missing this? That really looked nice in the store demo model IMO. I think its something the carrier opted not to do. Too bad... I may be missing where the setting is to enable this so if anyone has info on this please post your how-to.

Is this something that could be determined by examining the Best Buy model? I have one right down the road if so. I would prefer the black as well.

We are all better off forgetting those international models even exist, since without rooting we are stuck with the white backgrounds. Now if you do root, there's hope. I was able to switch the dialer of my S4 to the black version.

Another note about the international version: Even the battery cover is better. Says Samsung instead of the carrier logo and it's an inlay not printed.

The model was using the last version of Samsung keyboard before they updated it. It had a dark theme as stock read the reviews in the play store others want it back to.

Now I didn't look at the background on the best buys display phone for ATT I do remember it had ATT on the back cover so I don't think it was an international version. Unless they changed the back out

Erica talks about side loading apps. Perhaps if you cannot find what you need, you can do that with a 3rd party app?

Have you tried installing the sms app from the international version on your phone it should work properly

It may have to be flashed though which requires root and using recovery. I tried to put Allshare (Samsung Link is the new Allshare but I'm not sure if it has less features) on but it just says not installed after you try to install it the normal way.

Never had a problem with a third party app, using Handcent personally and have lots of options for choosing backgrounds, text colors, etc.
