Note 3 getting 4.4 Kitkat Update?

Nexus devices generally get it withing 2-3 weeks of Google announcing it via OTA.

Samsung will generally distribute updates via KIES which is a whole different conversation.

Yes my question is what's the difference between getting the update via ota and KIES and is it samsung pushing it out to us or tmobile :what:

i love my note 3 until 4 comes along

According to this article ...http://androidadvices.com/list-andr...tkat-firmware-update/...........yes.......the note 3 is in the list of getting the Kit Kat ......... is supposed to come out at the end of this month.......... I just don't know if TMobile will be releasing it at the same time.........

I don't believe for a second that we will see an official 4.4 update at the end if the month. I have my doubts that it will be even this year.

Android 4.4 will be out by the end of the month for Nexus devices, based on the available info out there...that's what I believe they meant by "end of the month", that 4.4 would be available, not necessarily a 4.4 update for any specific (non-Nexus) device.

Because we are so close to black Friday I am willing to bet that the newest devices will have the newest software,, just a hunch.

THE BEAST,,NOTE 3. SIZE IS EVERYTHING!!!

HIGHLY doubtful. Any devices being prepped for launch around Black Friday are most likely going through the final stages of QA now, there wouldn't be nearly enough time to prep a brand new OS in that amount of time.

Based on pretty much every major Android OS release the past few years, you won't start seeing 4.4 on new non-Nexus devices until around the start of Q2 next year (March~April time frame).

These are the facts, it takes OEMs (and then in some cases the carriers) some time to complete their QA process when new software drops. If having the latest version of Android is a priority, then ONLY way to ensure you get it in a timely fashion is get a Nexus, otherwise even the most top-of-the-line devices are always going to be a few months behind.

Back to the OP, yeah, I think the GN3 probably will get updated to 4.4...but there's really no use in worrying about it just yet.

I would say yes... Eventually.

I disagree with "the facts"

Disagree in the sense you don't believe them to be true, or disagree in the sense you don't like it?

I mean, I based everything in my comment on historical patterns up to now...it always takes a few months for even new devices to upgraded to the latest Android version. Take the LG G2 for example, it was just released in September, almost 2 months after Android 4.3 was released, and it's still on 4.2.2 (that's the most recent example of a high-end device I can think of). It's actually quite remarkable that the GN3, which was release only a few weeks after that, was able to ship with 4.3. Still though, with only a month between 4.4 being released (assuming it is at the end of this month as folks are speculating), that's still only about 1 month before Black Friday...so as I said, highly doubtful we'll see any 4.4 phones out by then.

I disagree in the sense on what I I have already stated.. With the Christmas season upon us I believe new phones,, which includes this one, will be updated in order to sell as many as possible. Don't worry,, it's OK to disagree,, not the end of the world. We are talking about a phone,, not world peace. ;)

fair enough.

for what's it's worth I agree that would be a great idea to sell devices... I just don't think it will happen. If I'm a betting man, I'd put money on that not a single non-Nexus (or Google ed.) phone will have 4.4 by New Years day.

The main reason i asked is because with the new root method named after the c.e.o of ATT, which doesn't trip the Knox flag counter, I didn't want to root and then have to wait for them to rerelease a rooted 4.4 technique, so the majority of the consensus is saying it won't be for a few months, So go ahead and root the tmobile note 3 and remove all the bloat ware since 4.4 isn't out for a while for us?
Also, side question if you know the answer by any chance, on the lock screen at the bottom it says tmobile, once rooted will I be able to remove those words? Ty

I bet it won't happen till sometime late next year I mean look at the note 2 still has not gotten the 4.3 update and it's been almost a year that it's been out. So for the note 3 to get 4.4 in only 2 months after its been out NOT going to happen

If it were me, I'd root now, then once the update for 4.4 comes out, decide from there how I'd want to proceed.

To answer your second question, I'd have to assume that yes, it's possible, however I'm not sure how easy it would be or if there are documented procedures on how to do it.

How long has the 4.3 update been available? I thought it just came out recently.

The fact that my old Thunderbolt was updated to ICS despite all of the "experts" here claims that it wouldn't makes me tend to think that no one here has a clue.

Yeah, it just came out a few months ago alongside the launch of the new Nexus 7

Well... for one thing, as an ex-Thunderbolt owner I can say the fact that device got ICS was practically a miracle. Second, I think most agree that the GN3 will probably get the 4.4 update eventually, but it's just a question of when.

IDK why people need these incremental updates ASAP. What really changes from the phone you have now? I can understand for a major UI refresh like hopefully 5.0 will be, or a new touchwiz skin. But these minor updates IDC if Id ever see

I think kit kat won't be out anytime soon maybe by June of next year. It's been a year already and the note 2 is still waiting for 4.3 so go figure

I really can't see 4.3 coming out any time soon but you never know when it comes to OS updates.

Meanwhile, Samsung (at least on Sprint, my carrier) was taking 9-10 months to get their updates released. This was around the time of Froyo and Gingerbread, but still, that's a pretty big difference. If other makers can finish an OS update in a few months, why does Samsung need most of a year?

Tell that to an HTC Thunderbolt user (which I was). Just got the Note 3 a couple weeks ago. LOVE IT! I am not saying I won't ever get another HTC phone...but that left a bad taste in my mouth.

Add me to the list of people that simply don't care or in no hurry. I am thrilled with this phone and OS.
