Note 3 or Nexus 7?

Hey guys, so I'm up for a new phone (end of contract) this month, but had my eyes on the new Nexus 7 (2nd Gen.) tablet as well.
So long story short: should I get the note 3 (will this fulfill my desire of wanting a tablet?) or should I get another smartphone (thinking S4, HTC One, etc.) and the Nexus 7 (2nd Gen.)?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forums.
Have you played with any of the devices?

Honestly, no. But I've been reading up on both the Note 3 and the Nexus 7 (2013). I feel like the Note 3 can fulfill the desire of wanting a tablet, but not 100% sure if it will. Also as a phone, it seems like it may be too big, but people are saying that you get used to it within a week.

Hard to say....Personally, with a device like these, it is important to be a little selfish. Play with all the phones, and decide what you like. I have some friends that think I was nuts for getting the Moto, instead of the device of their choice. I tell them they are not me....lol

So, to end my rambling...I say play with them all and make a decision. For all you know, you may hate the way one phone feels over the other, or screen type, or whatever.

I have had the Note 2 and 1st and second gen Nexus 7 4G versions, currently using N7 LTE as my phone...no doubt, get the N7. Few reasons...

There is absolutely nothing like having one everything device, you will want a tablet too if you get the note (I have a windshield mount and this makes the best GPS/hands free phone/radio with aux input. The note is still small enough that it's not a good in-car device)

As someone who uses their device a lot, AMOLED burn-in drove me nuts and it only took a year.

If you get dumped on by one carrier, you can change in a flash, Vzw, At&t and Tmo + all their MVNOs

$15 unlimited data from Aio, anyone?
A tablet plan can save you thousands over a smartphone plan in just 2 years.

TMo will have it, unlocked, in November for $0 down and $16/month...but you don't even have to buy their service to get that, the first 200MB are free.

If you break/lose the N7 it's only $350, I cried when I spilled water on my Galaxy

Samsung is a hardware company, their goal is for you to buy a new phone every year...Google is a software company, their goal is to get you addicted to Android, the more you use the tablet the more money they make. See how their interest in you as a consumer is completely different? Who do you think cares more after your 14 day return period is up?

I have the Nexus 7 and LG G2, and really like having both a tablet and phone. The phone is always in my pocket wherever I am, but when I am chilling somewhere, the larger tablet screen is much better for sustained content consumption.

There's still a fair size difference between the Note 3 and Nexus 7. I still find I prefer watching video on my Nexus (it's also easier to hold in landscape mode). I personally have room for both, but I really wanted a bigger phone.

Have a HTC one and nexus 7 love em. Note 3 is too big for a phone

I have a Note 2 and a Nexus 7 2013 (and an older ASUS TFT101). I find that the 7 is much better for longer term reading than the Note 2, for example using Kindle or Google Books. 7 is also better for video / youtube and access a DB I need for work since the DB has a lot of fields the larger size helps. The 7 makes a crappy phone since it is not a phone! Using Skype or GrooveIP is not nearly as good as straight cellphone voice service, although connecting the 7 to a Bluetooth headset does help a lot. A LTE 7 might be a little better in this regard but I will not be buying one of those at the current time. For quick Email, IM's Navigation, searches, etc and general phone the Note 2 is hard to beat but I will admit it is large but I am so used to it I think I would have a hard time using a smaller phone. I use the 10" pretty much only at home.

I have a Nexus 7 2013 & Note 10.1, S3 for phone. My phone is coming to an end soon as well - I'll definitely be getting the Note 3. The S. pen experience is fantastic, especially on Jelly bean when multi-tasking - having several apps open at the same time is awesome - I'll be able to lose the 10.1 now. The Note packs a lot of power, with 3gb of ram, two processors, cracking display which is now 6 inches it knocks spots off the Note 2. It does look a little big for a phone, but operationally you have a facility to shrink the screen to two thirds size, left or right for one-handed operation. The possibilities are endless. Having said that, I love the nexus 7, mainly for the display & watching movies/listening to music. The Note is very expensive though, you'll need good insurance!

My note 3 runs games better than my 1st gen N7. And yet it sits in its cradle at home while I play on my tablet. I find the "phablet" form factor great for an all-in-one device when I'm out and about but a full size tablet is still my first choice at home.

I say if you are not paying full price for the Note 3, get both. The Nexus 7 is great for video and games.

I guess it's a matter of economics. If you can afford both I would go with a phone and Nexus 7. The Nexus will be much better for reading and other relayed tasks. If money is an issue then perhaps one that does as much as possible is best. I much prefer having two devices. My Nexus 7 is much better for reading, social media, music etc. Larger screen size with better clarity takes the strain off my eyes...also my phone battery lasts much longer when I'm not burning it down doing stuff like this.

Yeah, but only 250MB is high-speed data.

And yes, T-Mobile will have the Nexus 7, but it will cost $384 from them, rather than the $350 that it costs from Google (or Best Buy or wherever else).
