Note 3 Screen - Pentile?

Nice to see hands on experience comments especially regarding the "perceived" fuzziness. Some people just like to hate on a phone OEM no matter what they do.

As an update SamMobile is sourcing this guy in Japan by saying it IS diamond pentile like the S4, but admit Ars does say it's not....so really unsure officially I suppose. Except the those macro shots from the Japanese article do seem like pentile to me....

Ahhh man, This is the first real proof of the N3 being pentile. I was really hoping the N3 was going to be full RBG, as I am still worried about the long term effects of a screen with pentile technology. Its not a deal breaker, but definitely the first true negative about the phone i've heard.

Let's put this puppy to bed, read this article about galaxy s4 display one of the best display on a phone!!!!

Galaxy S4 Display Technology Shoot-Out

Study shows display on Samsung Galaxy S4 trumps its predecessor, matches the Apple iPhone 5

This does not put anything to bed for me. I have no doubt that the screen will look awesome day 1 and for probably the first year. Thats how my GNEX was too. I am also not worried that from a technical stand point its an awesome display. 1080p and a more dense ppi will really look great, Although its not at dense as the S4, which is what that article compares (441 vs 386) I am worried about how this screen will look in 18 months. My phone has burn in. Banding, Gray lines that ruin whites. I get blues that show on white back rounds now too.

Maybe its the overall quality of the AMOLED used on the Gnex and that has been improved. (I hope) But lots of people on the Gnex forum pointed towards the pentile aspect as the problem, especially when it comes to the banding. Im getting the N3 regardless so time will tell.

I hope that's not the case. It's not something I'd considered.

If I'm not mistaken, the Note 2 used different display tech than the GS3 it was based on. These articles may have little to no bearing on the Note 3.

The GS3 was pentile. The technology thats being discussed here. The note 2 was NOT. So yes, there was a difference between those phones. The GS4 IS pentile. But its not noticeable unless magnified because of the super high PPI (441). Back in the day of 720p you could see the difference with the naked eye, and it really degraded the details of a display. Im not concerned about this problem because the N3 reaches a 386 ppi.
Just long term durability. The article shows some relevance because it looks like the Gs4/GN3 screens look to be the same tech wise, but it tells nothing for long term performance.
Lets hope the pictures/article posted don't hold true or we get some concrete verification soon

Just blindly believe what Apple says ...

, Apple claims that the human eye can't really distinguish more than 326 pixels per inch. Screens with 1080p HD resolutions typically hover in the 5-inch range, delivering pixel densities in the high 300s to 400s.

Taken from a article about phones here

I just don't believe 99 % of the people will be able to tell with the naked eye and the pluses of this phone will greatly out weigh the bad ... unless the bootloader on the sprint one is locked down tight like the Verizon one ...

I agree with Craig King on this one. Their use is based on what, hands on at IFA, they don't even bother to update the article the next day when pricing HAS been announced and they clearly show a bias towards pentile displays. I had the GN2, GS3 and GS4 and I never felt the screen was "fuzzy", I found them all to be super sharp.

I too am hoping that the Galaxy Note 3 screen is non-pentile. I hate when people say that we cant see pixels in a pentile display 300 or more ppi - this is pure foolishness. I have had every single top tier phone, and I mean all of them ( I use to sell phones until a few months ago), and I clearly have seen the pixels on every single phone that has a pentile display. I remeber when I ran to the ATT store to see the much hyped original GS1 and its beautiful screen. The first thing I noticed was the, as I described it at the time, lego -like, jagged font, which turned me off. The GS3 was really obvious and while not a bad screen, I would never choose that phone over say an EVO LTE, which had a much better looking screen (I did infact buy the LTE and loved the screen). I currently use the Note 2 and that screen is perfectly fine because its RGB, despite it being only 720p. The GS4 actually has a beautiful screen but I can still see the pixels without looking for them. As a matter of fact, I loved the GS4 screen until I used one for 2 days and the pixels started bothering me - very subtle but still evident. I promptly sold it. In any event, I know I will love the Note 3 regardless although I hope to goodness the screen is RGB. I ordered the original Note out of Europe a few weeks after it was released and even though the pixels on that screen were obvious, I learned to cherish that device none-the-less - the screen really pop with vibrancy. We all have preferences and should stop bashing each other if our personal tastes are different. How can someone tell me what I see because they can't....lol...?

BTW, my vision is good but far from perfect. i don't even think I have 20/20 vision ...lol.....

I am still in, ALL IN on the GN3. I have insurance on my phone, if the display has issues down the road then its time for a replacement.
