Note 4 group sms issues

I'm having the same issue. Had iphones for the last 6 years, but decided to give android a crack with the Note 4. I can send messages as a group message, but my friends with iphones receive it as individual texts (even though my inbox has classified it as a group message). Replies therefore only come from the individuals too.

I have signed out of imessage and receive normal SMS texts without issue. I have tried the stock app, GoSMS, textra, handcent and chomp...all without success. Really annoying (and inconvenient)!

Re: group sms issues

Hi. I'm scrolling the web desperately trying to find a solution to the exact problem mentioned above. Just switched from iPhone 6 to Note 4. I unregistered my number from Apple two days ago. I even called and they verified my phone number is no long tied to iMessage. I'm receiving individual messages from iOS users but all the iMessage group chats I was in - I send messages and the other folks receive them, but I dont receive any of their responses back. This is totally unacceptable. Are you saying that eventually (potentially up to 45 days), I'll start receiving messages from the group chat again?

I love the Note 4, but I'm about to jump ship and return back to my iPhone if there is no solution. The Note 4 is wonderful device, but communicating with my friends is more important to me.

What I don't understand is why I'm receiving individual SMS's from iPhone users, but cannot receive messages in the group chat? If my number is no longer tied to iMessage, when someone sends a message to our group chat, why doesn't it push the message through to me as SMS (just like any other time an iPhone sends to non-iPhone).

I am miles beyond frustrated with this issue. Anyone?

Same exact thing been happening to me. I get individuals back, but not in the group setting. Been wondering this myself.

I spoke with Apple again today. The rep claimed that completely unregistering your number from the iMessage servers can take over a week - depending on how many numbers are lined up ahead of you in the exodus queue.

She said that once the number is entirely wiped from the server, we will start receiving messages in those old group chats again.

I'm not sure if I buy it. I don't understand how my number can be 'kinda' unregistered where I can receive individual texts from iOS users but texts to our group chat won't come through.

Update: called back again and this time was transfered up to the top - to an extremely nice senior specialist. He took my number and spent about an hour talking to other Apple engineers. Essentially Apple has no idea how to fix this or why it's doing it. We exchanged emails and he asked that if I somehow figure it out, to please let him know so he can inform Apple - and vice versa if he figures it out.

Doing my own troubleshooting, I had one friend in our group chat wipe out the chat and start over. I started receiving messages in the group chat from her. The other person in the group chat did not delete the chat on her end and her messages are still not coming through to me.

It appears the only way to get yourself back into the group chats is to have each person involved delete the chat. Which is totally unreasonable to ask of them - years of conversations and pictures gone.

So officially from the top of Apple's engineering dept: they don't know why nor do they have a solution. And they don't understand why this is happening.

:/

This worked for me. Had multiple people check their texts to me, some were still trying to send as an imessage.

After deleting the conversation & starting new, now getting ALL messages from multiple people / conversations.

I found the same thing as "Jay_Kuykendall" stated. I too was suffering from the same problem, but I found that newly created group messages work but none of my older group dialogs that were originally started on my iPhone do anymore. Of course I cant confer for what happens after a week or two like some claim is a processing time for the complete imessage un-registering process to take. It could all of a sudden kick in, I only de-registered my phone about 5 days ago. I would imagine for those who are coming from the note 3, perhaps try creating a new group message and see if that fixes the problem. Hope this helps. At least with this, it isn't the pain that it would cause for others to have to turn off imessage altogether just because of us new to note 4er's.

Re: group sms issues

Have same issue. Swapped out iPhone 5 for Samsumg Galaxy Note 4. All other (5) family members still with iPhones. Called Apple Support to deactivate iMessage account. Can send and receive all individual SMS messages and can send group MMS to all family members but am not included on group MMS threads (conversations). Attempted switching from stock Samsung message service to Textra (which claims works with all iPhone messaging services) but problem persists. Have exhausted all troubleshooting avenues. Would appreciate any advice. Inability to participate in group (i.e. family) MMS messages would be a deal breaker and perhaps necessitate return to Apple device. Perish the thought!

Have you found a solution yet? Having the same problem. Deactivated imessage. Switched on group messaging in settings. Didn't work. Installed go sms but still doesn't work. I can send group message and get individual non-threaded responses. If someone else sends the group message I only see what they send and nobody else's. Samsung customer service and my carrier have been no help. Desperate for a solution!

Very strange. I was just in a group message today with 3 other people all using iPhone. I saw every message. I came from an iPhone just a couple weeks ago. I have switched from Android to iPhone and back a lot of times and have had issues here and there but not in a while. This is on Apple though. Not Samsung or Android.

I too am not getting group messages from a running thread with my wife and in laws. I'm certain if I told them all to delete the thread and start fresh that my "issue" would be resolved but I find myself in no hurry at present! Lol

So the way I fixed this was by going to Settings > Application Settings > Messages > Multimedia Messages and check the Group conversation box. This way the text application always defaults to using Group mode and all conversations appear in the same window.:)

If you use a third party app like textra then you have the option of using MMS for group chats.

I have done the following: Settings > Application Settings > Messages > Multimedia Messages and check the Group conversation box and also tried Textra and I still cannot do group messages. Correction, I can send a group text, but all the responses come in individually and only to me. I would like to blame it on Lollipop 5.0.1 as it is the cause of all the other terrible things (too many to mention) happening to my Note 4 (which is making me seriously consider returning to an iPhone), however I still could not group text with Kitkat either.

Hello,

I had this same issue using a Note 4 with a Sprint account under Android 5.1.1 and I found the solution. The SIM module did not have my phone number updated, so group MMS was not available. Look under Settings -> About Device -> Status at the value "My phone number" if the value is "unknown" (as mine was), then that is your issue. I called Sprint, they updated the SIM in my phone remotely, I rebooted the phone and it is fixed. The value in the settings now shows my phone number and I have the Group checkbox and MMS options and it works great, just like my older version Android phones.

Hope that helps!

I just checked my settings under "about device" and sadly my number is noted there and it is correct.

Hello. Just wanted to follow up a year later lol.

I haven't used iMessage in ages. And I still am "locked out" of all my "blue group chats" (aka group texts with all iPhone users).

This is not an issue that resolves in time. I've had to basically individually talk to countless friends over the year and let them know that I am not ignoring them in the group texts. I've had to explain the situation. And basically train them all (ha) to group chat over Facebook Messenger instead - which isn't too bad. We all use Messenger now. But many still often forget and text to the iMessage group chats. I've missed events, celebration dinners, etc.

Don't get me wrong. iMessage is absolutely amazing. But only if you plan on being iOS. For life.

Well done, Apple.
