Note 4 Where is the Menu and what's up with long press Home

Re: Where is the Menu and what's up with long press Home

And the right side of the button turns on hyper mode for 2 minutes - right? That new feature that boosts clock speed to 3.1 ghz

**I wanted to leave my response just as stated above - but too worried the could someone might actually be looking for the feature wondering why they don't have it..

The home button is in the middle, press to the left of the button.

The bottom left button is the recent apps that you might have opened up during the usage of your Note 4. You can swipe to delete one at a time or X for all. For those wondering where all the widgets are located now since there not in the apps folder. If you long press anywhere in a empty part of the screen and it will show a menu at the bottom, should be easy to figure out.

so now you have two buttons that do the exact same thing?

LOL! Well, it's not like the power button turns the screen off and locks it or anything like that! The power button should be used for what it's meant to be used for....opening siri....er.....opening widgets....er.....making it vibrate continuously....er....

If you long press the left "recent apps" button anywhere, it will act as the "menu key".

So instead of just pressing it, press and hold it, and it does the same thing.

You're welcome.

Depends. Some apps, like Kindle, that does nothing. (It brings up a short menu in an actual book, but from home screen, it does nothing.) For such apps, you have to SWIPE to reveal the hidden columns or click that little tab, upper left. Evernote--long press does nothing. You need to click that 3 dot icon, upper right. Uber--long press does nothing.

But between long press, or the swiping/click in the upper left corner or the click on the 3 dots icon in either the left or the right upper corners--I think it is fair to say everything generally works out fine. It is just not always so consistent.

So this is what happens when Samsung keeps a menu button on their devices long after Google had killed it off and then remove it one day to adhere to Android design? And there's no software buttons so there's no visual cue as to when there might be a menu in an app that hasn't updated to modern guidelines? This is what, a couple years old now this no menu button? If your favorite app hasn't updated yet you might want to contact the developer or even find a replacement app that is better supported.

What long press??? That stupid google now comes up whenever I press the home key, I have shut it off in the settings. It is not in my account manager so I can disable it. I HATE IT. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it??? Thanks!!!!:(

I just touch apps button to bring up list and flick sideways on an app I want to close to send it away.

Long Press the Recent Apps button to get a settings menu is what they're referring to. As far as disabling Google Now, that can be done in Settings.

When I went to the S5 from the S4 the change bothered me, but going from the S5 to the Note 4 I have actually forgot that it changed. Long pressing was what I thought it always was.

Where? I have looked all over for this, without finding it.
Also, what would be the alternative use for long press of "home"? ISTR reading somewhere that one could close the current app (instead of just sending it to background) with a long press of the home key. This would be a lot more useful to me than Google Now, but I can't find the reference any more.

with regards to changing the home key long press function: see this App link for an option https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...u0.appspot.home2shortcut&hl=en&token=kJTPfrNd

Double tap on the left side (Option) of the Home Button. The right side is the go back/previous button. I was frustrated with this new Note 4 and after long searching for this I found it by trying so many things.

For those who have become accustomed to the Note 3 long press to show recent apps, (I have too) and recently purchased a Note 4, I have a simple solution. This link will take you to the application on Google play: Swipe up Utility. https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...om.AdrianCampos.swipeuputility&token=rK0hfVZM
This app allows you to change this uncomfortable 'Google Now' feature and replace it with the good old long press recent apps feature that I have grown to like.
I hope this helped.
