Any ideas how they will handle recalls from phones purchased via swappa or eBay? I can't imagine they won't be covered....

hopefully we will figure out how to exchange it, i bought a unlocked note 7 from ebay to use with straight talk, i'm sure if i go to verizon store to exchange it the probably wont do it since i'm not their customer. 
I just filed a return claim with my eBay seller. I first called Samsung and they told me to call Verizon, since that's my carrier. I called the Verizon 800# and they told me to call a retail store, since they couldn't process it for me via phone, since I purchased it on eBay. I called my local corporate store and they said that they would have no record of my purchase, so they told me to contact eBay. The eBay rep told me to file a return claim. There's a chance the corporate Verizon store might process an exchange, once they have the new stock. But, that's not confirmed, nor do I feel like waiting and going through the hassle. I'm just going to follow-through with the return via eBay, get a refund, and go back to my S7 Edge for now.
Contact the seller about returning the device for a refund and tell them you will pay for return shipping. If they refuse the return, dispute with paypal.
The device is defective and only the original purchaser can participate in the recall. The seller needs to take the device back and that is the cost of them doing business.

Hoo boy, eBay and Swappa sellers are in for a bad time. Imagine the PayPal claims...and I think they would be honored. It's literally illegal to sell something that's been recalled. They can't just say "NO RETURNS BYE!" At least now you will find out who was lying about being the original owner...they will be like "um, I don't have a receipt, I bought it locally and have no way of finding the original owner..."

Agreed and that is the cost of doing business. You buy a phone at launch to flip, well you take the risk that you are going to have to accept that phone back if there ends up being a defect. But the seller will be able to exchange the phone for a fixed Note7 and resell it, but of course they will likely be worth less.
I sell on swappa myself and I would not hesitate to take a recalled phone back. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
Yep and even if they have the receipt to give to you, I don't think that is going to help. They are going to need to take the phones back. The only issue is who pays for return shipping.
I feel at the very least the buyers need to try thru Samsung direct first when the recall is up and going. Right now it's to early in the game.

I wonder if you get one month plan from one of the major US cell phone companies, and then try to swap the phone will work for you. But the problem now is with Amazon. Amazon refunded all the customers those who bought Note 7 phones from them and let them keep the phones, so now if you take your phone and try to replace it, they will think you get your phone from Amazon, and you are trying to get double refunds.
That's not an option unless you purchased through samsung.com.

You just file a dispute with paypal. Paypal will side with the buyer. This is not some scam, it is legit.
Why would you go through that, Samsung themselves are replacing the phones, its their phone they made it and they re called it, doesn't matter where you got it from, so much miss information out there.
Because Samsung isn't doing that. They are replacing phones they sold and carriers and retail outlets are replacing their phone.
Also when buying from an individual, NO ONE is taking it back. The original owner has to return it.
